Maggie Robinson Takes World By Storm

Today marks the beginning of what is sure to be an amazing career.

Nearly four years ago, I stumbled upon an understated, lively little bulletin board and thus began a whole new chapter in my life. Through that board and a shared love for Eloisa James and sweeping romance, a small group of women formed friendships and bonds that have lasted to this day.

Maggie Robinson is one of the many amazing women I met back then. She and I and several others - Q, Ely, Tiff, Hellion, Janga, and more - had a ball writing 500 word drabbles and seeing who would come out the favorite for the week. The prize was little more than bragging rights and a feeling of accomplishment, mostly due to the high level of talent in the pool, but those drabbles were the start of many publishing dreams.

Now, what feels like only minutes later, Maggie Robinson’s debut release, MISTRESS BY MISTAKE hits bookshelves today. And there is no drabble here. Anna Campbell says, “MISTRESS BY MISTAKE sizzles off the page. A marvelously sexy romp.

A sexy romp. How cool is that?! Here’s the blurb from Maggie’s website:

Charlotte Fallon let her guarded virtue fall once—and she’s paid dearly for it ever since. She swore she’d never succumb to men’s desires again. But even a village spinster’s life miles from temptation can’t save her from a sister with no shame whatsoever. Or a heart that longs for more, whatever the cost…

Sir Michael Bayard found more than he expected in his bed when he finally joined his new mistress. He’d fantasized about her dewy skin and luscious curves, assured her understanding that what passed between them was mere dalliance. But he didn’t expect the innocence and heat of her response in his arms. Nor her surprisingly sharp tongue once she was out of them…

A few days of abandon cannot undo the hard-learned lessons of a lifetime. Nor can an honest passion burn away the restraints of society’s judgments. Unless, of course, one believes in nonsense like true love…

Anyone else hearing that priest from the movie Princess Bride there at the end? Twoo wuvv…

Ahem, back to the point.

After spending so long saying things like, “I know I’m going to see your books on the shelf one day” and “One day you’re going to take the Romance world by storm”, that “One day…” is finally here! And if I’m this excited about it, imagine how Maggie must feel!

So do yourself a favor and go find this book. Or simply click that pretty cover above and order away. The first in the Courtesan Court Trilogy will knock your socks off and have you begging for more. Which is good because in addition to this Trilogy, Maggie will also see another debut in June when her first book under the penname Margaret Rowe, TEMPTING EDEN, hits shelves. The book that is destined to knock Pride & Prejudice out of the slot of best first line ever.

So here’s the questions for the day. What is the biggest mistake you ever made that ended up being something good? Are you interested in reading more book reviews from the crew? And besides the magnificent Maggie, what debuts are you dying to get your hands on?

One lucky commenter will have their own lovely copy of MISTRESS BY MISTAKE whirling it's way to your mailbox. So be sure and check back tomorrow to see if you've won!

PS: Forgot to say, Maggie will join us later this month for a special pirate visit. Wouldn't it be great if you read the book before then and could ask her all sorts of questions? *hint hint*

Thanks so much for this lovely post. I don't really feel magnificent, but you know how much it means to me now. Yay, Pirates!

There are a zillion ways to win this book today--you can check at http://www.maggierobinson.net/news or on Twitter. I'm so grateful to all my writing friends who are helping me with release day. Love you all and then some.

Yayyyy Maggie! :) I'm off to the bookstore today to pick this one up and Lover Mine (my two looking forward to it books this month. I already read the other--Demonkeepers). I'll take a pic and send to you, Maggie. I bet it'd be cool to see your debut on the shelf.

Biggest mistake that turned out great? I took a really crappy job that I regretted taking within days of starting. But, I met my DH.

YAY Maggie! I'm so excited your "One day" has arrived! It feels like a whirlwind.

My mistakes are legion...I think the good ones get overruled by the bad ones. But one good mistake I made was showing my husband my writing, because he encouraged me to get it out into the world--although now look at the crazy woman that has made me :)

I'm off to my bookstore at lunch too! I'm going to stand beside Maggie's book and pimp it out to everyone who passes!

Yay, Maggie!!!!! And what a lovely post, Terri. I might have to hire you for PR along with Kim. I'm just so happy for Maggie and her debut. Anyone who was a member of the EJ/JQ BB or part of Avon Fanlit knew it was only a matter of time before Maggie sold. Can't wait for everyone else to discover the Maggie Robinson love!!!

Another Yay, Maggie! Very excited for you today. I can't wait to dive into Mistress By Mistake! I'm gonna run my errands, crock pot it for dinner and climb back into bed with Charlotte and Bay (I love that name BTW)!

I love reading reviews, Ter. So, that would be a yes to more reviews from the crew!

Brain's not working at full throttle yet this morning so I can't really think of any great mistakes I've made that have worked out. I can tell you nothing would compare to Charlotte's, though. That one is a doozy!

Maggie - I love being able to shout about these books from the Crow's Nest. I've met a lot of authors, but when one of our own makes it, we celebrate. The fact that half a dozen of our own have made the leap is a reason to have lots of parties throughout the year!

(Can't wait to celebrate Tiff's in the fall!)

Marn - Is that the latest JR Ward? How many is she up to in that series now? And you must report back Maggie findings and pictures.

And how cool about that job. Right place, right time happens more often than we think.

JK - I'm very good with the selective memory. There are a few big ones that haunt me, but the trick is to forget the lesser ones. LOL! And we are happy your hubby saw your work too. Would have been a shame if those demons of yours hadn't seen the light of day.

Ely - I may have had a PR class or two in my day. LOL! Though Kimmie has the Romance PR market cornered. Her connections are worth ten of my horn tooting blogs. :)

Bosun said...

Irish - Sounds like you have the perfect day planned. And I'm glad to hear you'd be interested in reviews. I've never written one, but I started a book this weekend and think I'd like to write up a review. It's not a new release, a couple months old really, but it's so good I think it deserves more attention.

Big congrats! Both lovely looking covers... I'll search them out for my Sony reader.

Something I thought was a mistake that turned out to be a good thing? Hmmmmm...must think on this!

I do like the idea of crew book reviews...

Bosun said...

Okay, just realized I didn't put the "win a book" in the blog. I debated last night and decided I would just order one online and send to the winner, then didn't SAY THAT in the blog.

Really, our followers can read my mind, right?

So, anywhozit, comment to win. Off to edit edit edit.

Bosun said...

There, all fixed. That's better. I should make sure my brain and my fingers communicate better.

Donna said...

Maggie, HUGE congrats to you today. What an amazing feeling that must be! (I can't wait to experience it myself some day!)

I am definitely going out to buy this today. It's my way of celebrating your wonderful achievement. :)

Hellie said...

Yeah, Maggie, and you are magnificent! Don't say otherwise. :) I'm so glad your book is finally here.

Biggest mistake that worked out for me. I make a LOT of mistakes, but so few of them work out for me. *LOL* I did totally flub my speech in high school. Everything about the speech was a flub. I drew the last mark to do my speech (which I was told NOT to do: "You don't want to go last!"); I forgot my impromptu speech and gaped at my audience and then said, "I forgot"...just did all sorts of wrong. But I won the trip to Washington D.C. because I turned out to be the most memorable.

And I would love to read about more books on the blog. That's a new Pirate Decree: if you want to crow about a fabulous book you've read, blog about it here!

Bosun said...

Chance! How's the conference going today?

Donna - It's a celebration where we all win, isn't it? Party for Maggie and we get to read an awesome book. Win Win!

Hellie - You obviously did something right in that speech. LOL! I guess my big mistake would be marrying my ex, but I got my awesome kiddo out of the deal so something good came out of it. :)

Janga said...

Yay for Maggie and her debut day! It's so exciting to see the day finally arrive. I'm going out later today to see if I can find Mistress by Mistake locally. I ordered my copy, but I love seeing friends' books on the shelves and persuading browsers that they need to buy them.

Today is another one of those Super Tuesdays in Romancelandia with books by MJP, the Nora, Debbie Macomber, Meredith Duran, Rachel Gibson, Suzanne Enoch, Barbara Freethy, Susan Mallery, and Sherryl Woods being released. And those are just my autobuys. But even release day for these favorites pales in the significance of Maggie's debut. I feel as if there should be bands playing everywhere.

Janga said...

So caught up in the Maggie excitement that I neglected to say I'd love to see the pirates review books you love. The only downside is that it's sure to increase my already astronomical TBR collection.

JK Coi said...

Forgot to mention that I'm also giving a copy of Maggie's book away at my blog http://www.jkcoi.blogspot.com AND we're giving it away (he he) at the Vixen blog too http://www.vauxhallvixens.blogspot.com

So make the rounds and spread the Maggie love! :)

Bosun said...

How could I forget what I'd already said in less than three sentences? That's got to be a new record. Even for me.

Bosun said...

Janga - There's always room for one more book, right? LOL! I had no idea all those authors were releasing books today. I'm holding out for the Kleypas and James books coming soon to a store near me. And don't be silly, there's always room for one more book! Or ten. ;)

JK - At this rate, everyone has at least an 80% chance of winning this book today. LOL!

Donna said...

I've been looking forward to the Rachel Gibson release today -- I better get my work done before I hit the bookstore -- I can see I'm gonna be very distracted afterwards!

But maybe I'll just hit some of these other blogs first. . .you know, to show my support. :) I'll be the Spanx of romance authors. LOL Or something.

Scapegoat said...

Wahoo for Maggie!

I cannot wait to read this since and I've heard nothing but awesome comments about it! Headed to bookstore at lunch.:)

Scapegoat said...

Oh - forgot to mention I included Maggie as my top release featured today on my blog. We pirates have to stick together!

Post a link to your blog, Scapegoat!

Conference is slowly winding up to take off tomorrow with a collision of all things undone and a mess. Normal RT.

The newbies are really a delightful crew this year, very enthusiastic and they enjoy each other. Judi is buying Jane and I dinner tonight to say thank you.

I keep feeling like I want to get drunk... Wonder when Heather will get here and if I should hang in the bar tonight until late???

And I've been promised an introduction to Angela James.

Yeah, I really need a drink. Oh, isn't even noon yet...

Maggie? Wonder if you're book will be here for sale somewhere? I'll try to toot your horn with all the kids here!

Hellion said...

Scapegoat is our MsCheeky? Awesome!

Hellion said...

2nd: I got your package in the mail. VERY BEAUTIFUL! Loved the button and the book! Very cool!

Scapegoat said...

Hey 2nd - Heather is already there. She's doing a tweet meet-up at the bar in the hotel at 8pm tonight...hint hint hint! LOL

Bosun said...

Did we not make the connection that Scapegoat is Sabrina? LOL!

Oh, I better have another late night email with all the dish on the Heather visit.

I got my button and book yesterday! As I told Chance last night, ain't nobody gonna have flair like my flair this year. LOL!

2nd Chance said...

:) Glad you both liked the button and booklet. I'll work on more buttons when I get back...

2nd Chance said...

She's already there...I mean here!? Maybe I should head back to the hotel and stop blathering here at the Starbucks one block away...

So, what is a tweet meet-up and will I be totally lost there if I admit a total ignorance of all things tweet? Maybe I can wait until the tweeters are done and I'm thoroughly soused. They serve rum runners in the bar...

Or go early and see if I can buy her the first drink of the evening... Hmmmmm.

2nd Chance said...

But it's so nice and safe and quiet and familiar here...

Sigh.

I'm going!

Bosun said...

Definitely go with buying the first drink of the night. And get your ass back to that hotel!

Scapegoat said...

Chance - you have 2 stories to pitch! Get thee to the conference and grab your writing career by the horns and make it your bitch.

Network, mingle and tell eveyrone about your work - you never know who knows who or how they can help!

Bosun said...

Yeah! What Scapegoat says!

And if you think you're slinking away from the hotel in Nashville, you have another thing coming, chickie-doo.

Scapegoat said...

Can I pout for a minute...

Went to Borders...spent 20 minutes looking for Mistress by Mistake...finally got help and they show 2 copies in the system...no one can find them.

So, I reserved one for when they find them. I will get my copy come hell or high water! LOL

Bosun said...

I hate when that happens! Maybe they'll call you later today to say they found it. I've had them search high and low before. Those books need GPS chips!

Scapegoat said...

I'm hoping they were in someone's hands and they'll have to order more!

Donna said...

I've had that happen before, and the sales clerk said they were probably in the boxes in the back, but they didn't have time to go look. I couldn't really pout, since they truly were slammed, but it made me feel bad for the authors.

Maybe I should call and reserve mine now, so they can find it before I get there! (I'm trying to get my wordcount done first -- so I can have a REWARD!)

hal said...

Congrats Maggie! What an awesome feeling today must be! And such an amazing quote from Anna Campbell - go you!! I'm ordering myself a copy today - can't wait to read it!

Sin said...

I thought I missed her debut day interview on the RWR!! Maggie! This is so awesome and so deserving! I'm making my way to the store tonight to look for Mistress and if I don't find it, I'm ordering it! Can't wait to read it :)

Tiffany Clare said...

Ah.... back in the day! Those drabbles were so much fun... Maggie often creamed our asses!

No idea what mistake I made that was good in the end.

I ordered four copies to ship to me over night. Chapters couldn't find their stock of two! Buggers! But they gave me a raincheck and I get a discount for when I go stock up on more at the store this weekend!

What is the biggest mistake you ever made that ended up being something good?

Honestly, You don’t want me to answer that honestly do you? Yes, I’m quite sure that those of you who have been on the receiving end of one of my “I’ in the mood to be honest” emails will concur with my I’m-not-answering-answer … as you fall down to your knees thanking whatever deity you honor for my remarkably responsible non responsive remark! LOL

What I will talk about is how happy I am for Maggie. Congratulations , my dear! I am truly excited for you … and of course for myself … as I have been looking forward to reading your Debut Novel for years.

I’d love to see Pirate Book Reviews too!
