Title! I Need A Title!

Help a writer out, put your thinking tricorns on and see what you think…

The fourth book in my series has a working title. Double Trap. Because, well, there are two traps which are sprung. Of course, when I read it again and really kept track…there were three. Escalating in danger.

Starts with a personal trial involving only Jake and Miranda and an outside force. Overlaps with a trick pulled on the Moonstone and the fight to recover the ship and not lose Miranda to a second trap, which uncovers the third and deadliest trap. Which she walks into in order to spring it.

From the coast of North Carolina, back to Tortuga to a mythical stone dance in England…

So, I thought… Thrice Trapped. Uh, Three TricksTriple Traps… I am stuck on alliteration and hitting a rock wall.

I thought, well, a lot of this takes place at sea… The Treacherous Sea.

Since it ends at a stone dance… Another way to talk of Stonehenge – Interrupted Rituals …? (They totally take on an evil ritual, at Stonehenge.) The Dangerous Dance…?

Any other ideas? Come on crew, just let it flow… Miranda spends a lot in this book held captive again and again… Beloved Hostage … ?

I started with A Caribbean Spell – next is Red Sean’s Revenge – third is The French Gambit… and this fourth book sets a huge step forward for my intrepid couple. But I really do feel like what I’m coming up with for book four just isn’t ringing the right bell…

Dazzle me! Help me!

How about TRIPLE TROUBLE

I was trying to think of a play on the three witches in Macbeth .... double double toil and trouble ..... no more time!

Really looking forward to Miranda's second launch!

Deadly deception

Triple Threat?

How about giving us some hints about what that most dangerous trap is? You say Stonehenge, but who is the villain?

And that last one was supposed to be dance of deception.
Sigh.

I like the D titles.

Agree with Terri, need more detail about traps.

Though for the word three--I love the word "trifecta". *LOL*

Trifecta of Evil!

Oh man. Titles are my least favorite.

Trapped at Sea
Captive at Sea

Trapped in Three?

I'm not good at this....

I like Trapped At Sea!

I like the "Trapped in Three" because it makes me think of a line from a riddle or witch's prophecy...I presume we don't have a witch's prophecy in this book you can get your title from??

I love you guys... Most dangerous trap is sprung in England. Where a group of influential men who Jake and Miranda have managed to foil the plots of use magic and human sacrifice to maintain their power. They kidnap Miranda, knowing about her powers and ship her to England, using her to blackmail Jake into taking on the Manila Galleons for ransom.

The trip is torturous. Jake arrives in England with the ransom, determined to destroy the heart of the conspirators, who are men using dark magic...

And the conclusion of that terror is at Stonehendge, which isn't on the plains but part of a private estate. And it's holding captive Merlin.

See? There is a ton to explain! I don't write easy!

Deadly Trio? No, that sounds like there are three villains...or like the book has three separate stories. They are tangled...

You know, I read too many mysteries, I keep coming up with The Voyage of the Three Threads or something like that...

Trapped at Sea is good. I like Sea in the title.
I also like the D ones...

Do they know there are going to be three traps? Is it like a three part voyage?

If they do, maybe The Danger of Three? Or The Dangerous Three?

Maureen said...

The first is an out-of-the-blue thing. The second is the end of old business, the third is old enemies of Miranda, uniting with new ones...

I'm no help! Just so complicated!

ARGH!

Each of the titles until now name something in the book. There's a spell, revenge, and gambit. So we need another noun. Something that's in the story.

Is there a common thread through the traps?

Maureen said...

They want to use Miranda's healing magic and hold her to force her to use that in the first two. The third is a long time plan of revenge...against her and Jake, but mostly her...

Common thread... Magic's Captive .... Sort of a play on words. Captured for Magic. Hostage of Magic...

Good thing to get me thinking on, Ter.

I actually like "The Dangerous Dance". That would make me, personally, pick the book up. Triple anything would not have the same effect.

If you want something with Triple in it though, how about "Terror Comes in Threes"? Hope you get it sorted out soon.

I don't like naming books or stories either. Some people are very good at that.
