Birthdays and New Years

As you might have guessed with us hard-working pirates, today is another day off, but tomorrow we should be back to your regularly scheduled programming, starting with a book review by Terri. (She writes, she reads, she's superwoman!)

In the meantime, there are two very important birthdays on this ship: The Bo'sun's and the Captain's pirate daddy, Captain Hellion, Sr. (He's 91.) It must be tough to have a December 31st birthday...you have to wait all year for it.

Today, Captain Hellion Sr is being taken by Captain Hellie Jr to the local steakhouse for his usual round of rare steak and a slathering of steak sauce. And Bo'sun is celebrating having her little Bo'sun Jr back again and writing like a fiend--so both of them will probably be checking in later to see the Happy Birthday well wishes.

So the questions today are:

What are you most looking forward to in 2013?

How do you eat your steak? (Mine is always rare or medium rare--as is Hellion Sr's.)

And what drink are you toasting the birthday kids with today? Something old or something new?

Happy New Year's, my favorite pirates. I hope this year brings you good health, happiness, and prosperity, and this year brings you closer to your dreams coming true. I'm honored and glad to know each and every one of you!

Most looking forward to in 2013? Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of depression.

I like my steak well-done. (Yup, total barbarian for steak lovers. I really prefer pepper steak, with chunks of black pepper embedded into the flesh.)

What will I be drinking? Well, I have an opened bottle of white zin. I celebrated writing the last words of my Homeless MS with a glass. The NY? Husband bought me a bottle of Mint Baileys...I may crack that open!

Happy B-day, Hellion SR. And to Terrio! Enjoy the day with Bosun Jr!

Happy Birthday, Terrio and Mr. Hellion SR! :) Wishing you both a prosperous and successful year!!

I like my steak medium. I'm fine with it being medium rare even, but not well-done. And I'm a purist. Filet all the way.

As to what I'm drinking? I have my sister here, and she's preggers. So I won't be drinking much out of sympathy. We have another couple coming and that girl is nursing. It's going to be wild.

But my favorite New Years drink is a Hpnotiq and champagne. It's called a blue sparkler. Yum. http://www.hpnotiq.com/ This is hpnotiq if you aren't familiar.

I'm rather grateful for medication that makes for better mental health and better living. *LOL* I am now all about it. I too am also looking forward to leaving depression behind in 2013!

That is completely barbaric for steak--but I do love the peppercorns. I could do that. So long as the steak was rare. :)

Congrats on the completion of Homeless--and have fun with your revisions (no, I'm not being sarcastic--it's a great story and I think tweaking it will be as fun too.)

Marn, yeah, my good woman. I can live with medium. That's good. And filets are NICE, but I'm good with just about any part of the cow. *LOL* Sirloin, chuck, rib eye, flat iron...whateves...did it moo? Great. Put it on my plate!

Wow, that does sound like a wild night. *LOL* Well, if it's not that wild, it does have the important components of being spent with your favorite family and friends. That's the part that matters.

I have heard of Hpnotiq! *LOL* I've wanted to try it! Awesome--I'll have to give it a try some time. :)

Thanks for the birthday wishes and Happy Birthday to Captain Pops! Though I will not be doing a review tomorrow as it's New Years Day. Pretty sure no one will be up and around much. LOL! But next Tuesday it's all me. And Tracy Brogan's CRAZY LITTLE THING.

I like my steak medium and I agree with Marn, filet is my favorite. I got a gift card to Buffalo Wild Wing I thought kiddo and I might use this evening. Do they have steak?? I've never been and am not much for wings. I'll have to look up their menu.

I only drink water these days but maybe I'll get adventurous and buy a little 4-pack of some berry wine coolers. LOL! Whoa! Hold me back.

Oops. *LOL* Okay, whatever day we're starting on...you may or may not get a new blog on Wednesday, depending on the recovery procedure of the pirate in question. *LOL*

Why is Buffalo Wild Wings wasted on people who don't actually like chicken wings? WHY? *LOL* Deerhunter was eating that the other day--and I was so jealous. *LOL* Not that I need to eat fried chicken wings, but they are so dash-gone tasty!

I used to eat wings all the time at a bar in Pittsburgh, but I got out of the habit. I do like them if they're mild enough. But I see they have awesome looking burgers and I'm craving beef. Hmmm...this is going to be a tough choice.

The happiest of birthdays to Terri and to Hellie's dad!

I'm having a quiet New Year's Eve recovering from a nasty respiratory infection. I'll have to celebrate with chicken soup and ginger ale. But my Kindle is loaded with new books, including Jennifer Ashley's latest in the Mackenzie series and an ARC of Kristan Higgins's The Best Man, and I expect to do lots of reading.

Happy New Year to all the pirates and pirate family members. I hope 2013 is a year of wins and wonder for all of you.

Thank you again, Janga. So sorry you're under the weather. Here's to a quick recovery in the new year. And I'm VERY jealous of those reads. I'm behind on the Mackenzie series. Need to fix that in 2013.

I know, it's barbaric to cook meat well done. I always order it in restaurants and expect a chef to come out and glare at me...

A local place serves a Pepper Steak to die for. The Jack Daniels Pepper Steak. They use whole pepper corns and last time I ate it, I couldn't drink enough water for DAYS! Who knew pepper would dehydrate you? I didn't!

Modern drugs are wonderful, Hels. I think my dosage finally shifted into the right level and I'm feeling so much better now... (Why do I keep hearing a voice from Monty Python say that? Oh, that's right. Search for the Holy Grail...)

So, Ter...going to annoy you and ask for the book titles you recommended a few weeks back...don't remember the author name... wrote Sugar Daddy? I got a B&N gift card to spend and want some good contemporaries...

Oh, and Hels, I expect revising Homeless to be pretty fun. I'm very proud of myself, I already have some notes of what needs plumping. Not sure the world is ready for my version of Holmes, but it was sure fun to write and who knows?

What are you most looking forward to in 2013?

That's easy. Reading Terri's debut novel and Maureen's Caribbean adventure stories with Miranda the time travelling witch LOL

How do you eat your steak?

Hate the taste of blood .... that's why I don't read vampire stories!
Mine is burned to a cinder and soaked in gravy!

And what drink are you toasting the birthday kids with today?

Got a new bottle of vintage scotch for the New Year so that will serve nicely.
Happy Birthday to Terri and The Gaffer (Helli's Dad)

My Grand thinks I'm a 'COOL Grandpa' *grins proudly*
So you need to hurry up Helli or the Gaffer may never experience that joy!

Terri, I'm collecting OXO cubes ready to celebrate the launch of the debut novel.
Go to it girl!

Terri Osburn said...

What are OXO cubes?? LOL! You've always had faith in me, Q. I can never thank you enough for that. Have a birthday shot for me!

Sorry I missed you all yesterday! Happy belated Birthday Ter and Pops Hellion! Hope it was a good one.

I like filets and I like them medium - just a little pink in the middle. Overall I'm not a huge beef eater, though.

It was a quiet night with just the DH and I catching up on our "Person of Interest" episodes. We did toast with a glass of white zin.

Most looking forward to in 2013 - good health for me and my family.

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather, Janga. Hibernate, take care of yourself and catch up on all that great reading ahead of you. I'm off today to purchase Jennifer Ashley's latest. I loved the blurb at the end of her Christmas novella. I can't wait!

Happy New Year, pirates. I hope 2013 brings everything your hearts desire.
