I Am Not Insane

I am mad, but not insane. Insanity is crawlin’ offa the couch while still feelin’ the effects a too much turkey/stuffin’/yams/greenbeans/pumpkin pie and whatever else yesterday’s orgy a’ food brought me way and goin’ shoppin’. (Wrote this before me MIL's table left me...hungry. Sigh. That said...)

There ain’t a sale out there fine ‘nuff ta entice me inta a mall taday.

Though I admit, if’n I lived near Jane-o and the Mall of America… I might be tempted ta join her. But it wouldn’t be fer the shoppin’. It would be fer the sake a friendship and having fun.

What would lure you out into the wild jungle of the modern megamall, today? Or all days?

I used to work retail. I am immune to the insanity now. I am going shopping purely out of the enjoyment that is shopping. :)

I have to go into town today to drive my daughter to the rental car place and pick up a prescription, which I'll do at the Rite Aid drive-thru. Not stepping out of the car to rub elbows with anyone! The past couple of years I've done my holiday shopping online and bought giftcards...I know, I know, it's all my fault the economy is tanking. But I hate to shop now (I am a recovering TJ Maxxaholic).

WOW, is it really that crazy? We have our busy day (Boxing Day) where everyone has a "bit" of a deal, but it's not like it used to be and hasn't been for a long while.

JK - It's true insanity. Chance it not kidding. There are people who line up as early as 3am to get tickets for deals that start at 5. And they are good deals. You can get a laptop for under $200. That's pretty damn good.

I've never done the Black Friday thing. Right now my office is around a large shopping area and I'm dreading going out there. I do need to stop at the pet store after work and I'm hoping they've all run out of steam and gone back home by then.

I'm planning a run to the UBS today, but nothing could tempt me to join the Black Friday shopping frenzy. I'll do most of my shopping online, and the part I'll do in brick and mortar stores will wait till things are saner.

Back in the day, my sister, a couple of friends, and I used to make a full day of it every year. We still talk about Christmases past in terms of THE TOY and our struggles to find one. I can remember a mad woman literally trying to rip an Atari 2600 out of my arms one year. And another year we hit every toy store within a hundred miles trying to find a doll for the daughter of one friend that "looked like her." We failed to find a doll with Asian features that day, but we must have searched in a couple of dozen places. But I have less energy now and the crowds are bigger and meaner.

I was so tired this morning, there was nothing in the entire world that would have propelled me out of bed.

I do have friends who sat at ToysRUs at midnight last night. I think they're insane too.

LOL!

I'm going to try to do some of my shopping on line. I've already started the lil' pirates shopping. I'd like to get it doner pretty quick. I hate Christmas shopping at the last second.

Janga - I remember those Atari systems, though I never had one. :( And I remember people fighting for the Cabbage Patch Dolls. Are there any toys these days that are the IT toys? Kiddo is pretty much out of the toy stage. Seems now everything is electronics and video game stuff.

Marn - What in the world was so big they had to be out that last night?!?!

Apparently she got Guitar Hero for the Wii for only 10 bucks with the purchase of the guitar? Not good enough to be out all late, in my mind. And I have a cold. I wasn't tucked on the couch with a cup of tea last night. I went to bed early. Ugh.

The friends we had Thanksgiving dinner with were planning to leave at 3:30 a.m. and had drawn a map of places and times of sales. There was a big dilemma of which location was first. They asked me to go with and I declined - - I had a feeling I was going to be thrown out of a moving car to stake their claim on something. LOL

Nothing would tempt me to join the madness. Instead, stayed home and my son and I decorated our tree. My family doesn't celebrate Christmas so my list is small. Just a few things purchased online for my son and small gifts for friends.

And I slept in! Nothin' like a good solid 12 hours a rest ta make up fer not enuff from the rest a' the week.

Jane-o was contemplatin' risin' at 4am ta be at the mall when it opened...and her outlet mall, down the road was openin' at 1am... An outdoor mall, in Minnesotta, in late November...

Me tits tighten at the thought!

Me mum-in-law used ta get up at midnight and drive ta San Francisco from San Luis Obispo fer the Black Friday sales in the big downtown stores...

I've never done it. There jus' ain't nothin' out there worth the headache!

I think the big toy this year be one a' those Elmo things, again. I be doin' the bulk a' me shoppin' on line or early mornin's when the malls open at 7am... In at 7am out at 9am...golden!

Marn - Those guitar hero and rock band things are all the rage. I got kiddo a Dance Dance Revolution for the Wii online for $25. There's a site called slickdeals.net that posts these kinds of crazy deals all the time and a coworker led me to the video game. If I really NEEDED something like the new comp or flat screen TV, I might have ventured out. But I'd have to NEED something really bad before I'd throw myself into the fray. LOL!

Melissa - You'll have to let us know if all their preparation paid off.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. I am not leaving this apartment for any sales place. *shudders* Not a good enough deal on ANYTHING to get me to go.

I am contemplating the gym though. I figure that place will be empty. *LOL*

2nd Chance said...

I bet the gym will be empty!

I be tryin' ta think...if there were a sale on agents...that might be me downfall... Get up at 4am ta get a good deal on an agent, I could go fer that.

Bosun said...

If they did that at Nationals, I can just imagine the flying elbows and hair pulling. LOL!

2nd Chance said...

Agents! Get yer agents here! Paranormal agents by the dozen! Erotica agent be here in the shadows... Ya can find the historicals near the fountain! And the contemporaries be at the coffee house. Now, yer suspense agents, they be lurkin' about. Have to find 'em ta buy 'em!

Agents! Get yer agents...on sale now!

Happy Belated Thanksgiving, Pirates! Did Turkey Day with the DH's family on Thursday and Turkey Day with my family yesterday. The cool thing about both days is that I didn't have to cook or clean house!!! YEAH!!!! Although I'll pay for it come Christmas. I'm having DH's family on Xmas day and all 33+ of mine for a sleepover the day after! Nuts. I know. I'm trying not to think about it.

The DH and I got up at 3 am last year on Black Friday to get a deal on those pillow top/memory foam mattress pad thingys that run $400-$500. We got it for about $180 (better than getting a whole new mattress) then went back to Kohl's the following week and it was discounted another $20. After that my DH will never do Black Friday again. He thinks it is a waste now which is fine by me. I am not a shopper. I just don't have that bargain gene. If I want it I buy it. And I feel very little guilt that I probably could've gotten it cheaper somewhere else or at a different store.
