Loucinda McGary Brings The Wild Sight to The Revenge!

Ahoy and BOO to ye, Mateys!  We here on The Revenge are honored and excited to have Sourcebooks Casablanca debut author, Loucinda McGary (aka Aunty Cindy in the Bandita Lair), back for a post-launch, return visit.  Loucinda is wrapping up a whirlwind October that has pretty much been a promotional marathon.  For the skinny on her debut novel, The Wild Sight, the inside scoop on her first month as a published writer, and the low down on some paranormal activity – keep on reading! (And there's prizes so really, get to reading.  What are you doing still reading this intro?  Read the dang interview already…sheesh.)

Bo'sun:  First off, the really easy one.  Tell us about The Wild Sight.

Loucinda:  Ah yes, the book of my heart! My "baby" that is at last on the shelves of bookstores… SOMEWHERE, though apparently not in Bo'sun's neck o the woods. PFFFT!

The Wild Sight: An Irish tale of deadly deeds and forbidden love
is a romantic suspense with paranormal elements. It's the story of Donovan O'Shea, who is cursed with the clairvoyance the Irish call "The Sight." Donovan has spent fifteen years trying to deny his so-called gift, but when circumstances force him to return to
Ireland, it all comes crashing back with a vengeance. He becomes embroiled in two murders, one recent and one not, and meets a beautiful woman who can't possibly be his half-sister.

Bo'sun:  I'll find this book by hook or by crook!  Now, has this first month of being a bonafide published author with a book on the shelves been what you expected?  If not, how has it been different?

Loucinda:  In some ways it has exceeded my expectations. In others, it has been frustrating and stressful. Getting wonderful reviews, including a star from Publishers Weekly, has been a dream come true!On the stressful side, there was a snafu at the Sourcebooks' warehouse, and The Wild Sight did not get shipped with the other October releases. I had an in-person launch party scheduled for Oct. 5th and the books were not available ANYWHERE! ACK! Luckily, I received my author copies the day before the party, and several people received their Amazon orders, so there were some actual books at the party. Not only that, but people I did not know and who didn't know me asked for my autograph. That was a real thrill!

For two weeks, I kept going into my local bookstores only to be told that "the books are on order" or "we had copies but they are already sold out." Now I know this latter situation is a GOOD thing, but I was still frustrated. Finally, on Oct. 18th I went into my local Barnes & Noble and found copies on the shelf! I was in new author heaven!

Bo'sun:  Okay, that sold out bit is AWESOME!  I know you've been on a Wonderwoman blog tour this month, did you ever guess how much promotional work you'd have to do when you decided to write Romance?

Loucinda:  I dunno about Wonderwoman, more like Exhaustedwoman (Aunty reveals ginormous E on her chest). This is my 15th blog appearance in the past 30 days, not counting my regular postings on my two group blogs and my personal blog. I also gave one live presentation (on internet promotion no less!) to a writers group an hour's drive from my house. So in a word, "no" I didn't think about the amount of promotion involved in launching my debut novel way back when I first started writing it. However, everything I've heard and read says that the more times people see your name or book title, the more likely they are to remember. I wanted to do everything in my power to get the word out about The Wild Sight, plus so far, I've had a ton of fun doing it! Of course, I won't know for sure how well I've succeeded until I get some sales figures, but I gotta believe this has all helped build the buzz.

Bo'sun:  Can I get one of those Big E shirts? I so need one.  Being a member of the Romance Bandits means having access to some great published authors (and fantastic as-yet-unpubs too!).  What's the best advice you received before the big release and what advice do you wish you'd gotten that you didn't?

Loucinda:  First and most importantly, let me say what a thrill and a privilege it is to be associated with this fantastic group of women! They are all amazing and multi-talented and sometimes I feel like a slacker in comparison. But that's the best part… there is NO competition, only support! We are all on our very individual writing paths and yet we all share and support one another. I think the genuine caring and friendship amongst all of us is what makes our blog so successful.Plus, the Banditas KNOW how to party! I think that's the most valuable advice they've all given me. CELEBRATE! It's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind, or to focus on the negative at the expense of the positive things going on in your life. Let go of that negative and embrace the positives!

Have faith and believe in yourself and your abilities – this is the advice I wish I'd paid more attention to when my Banditas and other supportive family and friends tried to drill it into my hard head. I still struggle sometimes to give myself proper credit, or even the benefit of the doubt, but I am getting better.

Bo'sun:  If seeing your first book on the shelves doesn't make you pat yourself on the back, I may have to come over there and shake some sense into you!  As Halloween is just a couple of days away, tell us a bit about the paranormal elements of your story.  How did you come up with the idea?  Do you believe in "the sight"?  Have you experienced any paranormal activity in real life?

Loucinda:  I've always been intrigued with the notion of "second sight" or clairvoyance. Being of Irish heritage myself, I grew up with this notion, but I'd never heard of it being associated with a man and that idea is what led to me writing The Wild Sight. My hero, Donovan hears and sees things that other people do not, but in the course of writing the story, his "gift" evolved into more than that. Instead of simply having "visions," he actually moves into a shadowy world "between" this one and the past. This ability first manifested itself when he was a young child and he played with two other boys who happened to be Bronze Age Celts (and may or may not be his ancestors). Interestingly enough, this ability is stronger around the Celtic holy day of Samhain, which we currently celebrate as Halloween.

At one point in the story, my heroine, Rylie observes Donovan interacting in this alternate realm and says that he looked like her idea of a ghost, "…almost like you weren't quite there." In this other reality, Donovan's personal demons become all too real and he must literally do battle with them. I had lots of fun writing those scenes, even if they weren't exactly planned.

As for my personal paranormal experiences, they are pretty limited. I had an out-of-body experience once, and both anesthesia and jet-lag give me dreams that are way too vivid to be enjoyable. I know a couple of people who claim to have "the Sight" but I'm reserving final judgment until they win the lottery.

Bo'sun:  If that lottery thing works out, I do hope you'll hook a pirate up.  Think of how much rum we could buy with 10 million dollars!  Time to turn it over to the crew and our loyal free-loaders…errr…..passengers?  Do you have any good unexplainable stories to tell?  What kinds of paranormal experiences have you had?  The spookier the better.  And one lucky commenter will win their very own copy of The Wild Sight so comment long and often.  (If you just can't wait to get your hands on this awesome book, click the cover above and order it today!)

Ahoy, Aunty Cindy and Terrio! Terri, it's always a pleasure to visit the Revenge. Somehow, with All Hallows Eve approaching, it seems most appropriate. *g*

I'm proud to say I ordered from Amazon (through the handy links on the Romance Bandits blog, so I did not fall victim to the wonky shipping of The Wild Sight. Bwa ha ha! (Sorry about the evil cackle, it's worse this week.)

As to the paramornal, I am happy to say my brushes are almost non-existent. My imagination has always been so vivid that I need NO help at all to have paranormal encounters! I have always prayed that God will spare me from paranormal experiences I can't handle and He has so far. I have friends who would not be freaked by spooky stuff AT ALL. Famously, my friend Nikki who guested with us this time last year. She thrives on signs of ghostly activity. I am just a big old chicken!

I thought I saw my great-aunt Helen's ghost one night when I was nursing one of my babies, but it might just have been whacked-out sleep deprivation.

Good Morning, Caren! Our first Bandita for the day. Whoot! And don't you mean you're just a big old rooster? LOL! We don't have a rooster here but you can have the undead monkey if you'd like.

It sounds like maybe you haven't seen anything paranormal because you don't want to see it. Happy to hear the ghosty types have left you alone. And wtg on the online ordering. I just really wanted to see the book on the shelves, in person, know what I mean? *sigh*

Maggie - A sleep deprived mind can play serious tricks on us. In all those old houses you've owned, you've had no other ghostly encounters?

Christie Kelley said...

I just love a good ghost story. That might be due to growing up in a house that was about 100 years old and there was always something unexplainable going on. It never frightened me and I think that's because the house had always been in my family. So I assumed if it was a ghost, it was just a wacky relative.

I remember one time when a cousin visited and left his semi-expensive lighter on a living room table. I saw it there myself. The next morning when he was getting ready to leave, the lighter was gone. No one in my house smoked at the time and everyone denied taking it. About three weeks later, I walked into the living room in the early morning and there was the lighter. Exactly where he'd left it. Paranormal? Some people would say no, but with the number of footsteps you could hear in this house at night, it wouldn't surprise me.

terrio said...

I think the formatting on this blog looks worse everytime I open is. Dang thing.

Hey there, Christie! Welcome aboard on this chilly (where I am!) day. You've got to figure there's all kinds of spirits in a house that old. I'm thinking one of the wondering spirits in that house really needed a smoke. LOL! At least he/she was nice enough to return it.

Christie Kelley said...

What an image! A smoking spirit! That's great.

I love it when the Banditas raid the ship. Regular corsairs, they are, and they always bring more drinksies and cabana boys.

Paranormal activities. Other than my dating life? I think I dated a vampire once. And definitely had coffee once with one of the characters on the Adams family. Never mind the incubus. I rather like him.

Our house was built on the site of a couple of other houses. The first cabin burned, and there's a story that the lady in the cabin died in the fire. In the second house, a pair of sisters lived, and one of them died there. I've never particularly felt them hanging around or anything. My sister won't go into the northeast bedroom of the house (her old bedroom) because she swears there is a ghost (a male one) which haunts it. I live in the house, and thus far *knocks on wood* he's not bothered me. Then again, I sleep in the altogether, maybe he knows not to ruin a good thing when he has it. I don't know.

The closest I've been to "meeting" this ghost was the night I brought home my friend Donnell. We were doing a fly-by the house to retrieve hair rollers; and it was 1 am. I didn't want to turn on any unnecessary lights...and I'm tiptoeing through the house to retrieve things. I slip through the kitchen, and suddenly Donnell is pressed up against my back like velcro. "Don't leave me," she whispers, sounding panicked.

I calm her down, get the stuff, we leave--and I mean, she floors it out of my driveway and down the gravel road, she's shaking. "Would you like to explain that?" I ask.

"You didn't feel it?"

"No, but let me guess. It was a male, malovent ghost, right?"

"YES! You didn't feel him? How did you know?"

"My sister swears by him."

Donnell didn't come into my house at night again.

Congrats on your launch, Aunty Cindy!!

Oh, I have a scary ghost story. One of my old boyfriends lived in a really old farmhouse. (ie early 1800s.) The house was split into a duplex and the attic was closed off. He would need to leave for work early in the morning and after he would leave I would lay in bed feeling like someone was watching me. (Mom are you reading this? Because I'm sure I only stayed the night there a couple times, I assure you, when the weather was bad and stuff....)

Anyway. If I ever took a shower, I felt like someone was watching me. The door to the bathroom would open sometimes.

After a while I started going home when he left for work at 5:00 cause it creeped me out.

When we broke up, we got together for the final exchange of personal effects over dinner and he asked me if I ever noticed anything weird in the house.

I was like, why? Because seriously, this dude was my ex now and I didn't want to be opening up about creepy peeping tom feelings in the wee hours o the morning.

And he said that their tv started coming on randomly, the radio, and one day he saw a guy walk by while he was doing laundry and walk up the stairs when no one was home.

So I said, well, was it like a young guy, late teens/early 20s? Because that's what it felt like to me, like some young guy was staring at me all the time.

And he was like yeah.

So, he had his uncle (a priest) come bless the place. The opened the attic and the only thing up there was a chair and a stack of books.

Creepy, huh?

Hellion said...

That is creepy, Marnee!

Marnee Jo said...

I won't even go into how many times my son talks to my dad in the middle of the night.

My dad died nearly 3 years ago.

Hellion - that is one creepy story!!

Marnee Jo said...

Christie - that lighter one is awesome too!

I had a couple of my younger cousins swear they saw ghosts when they were young. Like 7 and younger.

I serious think there's stuff out there.

Sin said...

Ahoy Aunty Cindy and our visiting wenches!

Being of Irish (and many other questionable sources of heritage) I grew up with stories of second sight and supersitions. And when you're young and you hear ghost stories you're intrigued enough to try to experience one of your own. I think spirits and souls should be left alone; seances and Ouija boards freak me out. I won't touch a Ouija board. Conjures too many bad spirits and unexplained violence.

I have a ghost story but I'm sharing it on Friday :)

Marnee Jo said...

I wonder if the whole irish heritage thing helps along the superstitions....

terrio said...

*rubs hands together*

I knew we'd get fun stories like these. Marn, I love the comment to your mom. Up to that point I was thinking, "I wonder if her mother knows she spent the night with a boy?!" LOL! And that ghost was obviously a perv.

Hellion - I love that this ghost doesn't mess with you. That is one smart ghost! You'd totally kick his ass.

My aunt has a ghost in her house and she had a conversation with him many years ago. Then later a young man showed up at her door saying he's grown up in the house and could he just wanted to stop by and see it. She asked him about the *man* she'd talked to, giving him a description. The guy explained it was his older brother who'd been killed in a motorcycle accident. He assumed she found an old picture in the attic so you can imagine his surprise when she explained that she had talked to him.

*dododododododo*

terrio said...

Sin - I only played with a Ouija board once and that was at band camp 8th grade year. (This one time at band camp....) The only things I remember is that it moved, I definitely wasn't moving it, and when I asked who I would marry (as all 13 yr old girls are want to do), it gave me the initials DO. Yep, those are my exes initials. I was totally shocked when I remembered that about two years AFTER the wedding.

Marnee Jo said...

her bifocals and embroidered sweatshirts just make her look conservative.

Marnee Jo said...

LOL! My mom's actually way more chill than I let on. :)

Sin said...

Wow, Hellion. Freaky. Bless Donnell's heart. I don't want to go in your house either. I'm a bit superstitious.

And Marn, that's just downright scary. Maybe your dad is his guardian angel.

Sin said...

I swear, the Ouija board opens up all kinds of trouble. Just like Pandora's box. I've only touched the Ouija board once (I know! I know, mama. Jesus. I never did it again!) and when I touched operator it shocked the hell out of me and I immediately let go and it moved like crazy. Everyone freaked out. I didn't sleep for a week! I kept seeing it in my head, over and over again.

I didn't watch what it spelled out. I didn't close my session out either. I couldn't bring myself to touch it again. The girls played with it and I locked myself in the bathroom.

Freakin' Ouija board. I looked it up on the Wiki and it made my hair stand on end.

terrio said...

Sin - You just have to remind yourself it says Milton-Bradley right on the board. LOL! Things only have the power you give them. The power isn't in the board, it's in you.

Doesn't that make you feel better? 8)

Hellion said...

Sin, don't lie. You don't want to go in my house because it looks like a hurricane hit it.

Actually I'm not in tune with actual ghosts, but if a house could have a "mood", I'd say our house is kinda gloomy. And I don't think it's because it needs to be cleaned and it's just depressed. If I sit in my house too long, I actually feel rather oppressed. (That could be any house, I suppose, but I don't feel this way at other houses--NEWER houses. It's the older houses that have the "moods", it feels.)

Hellion said...

No. That's crap, Terri. There are powers outside you too...and you can't control them. I don't care if it does say Milton-Bradley.

Hellion said...

Ouija boards are to be avoided at all costs. And I was smart enough in EIGHTH grade to have known that. Don't tempt the evil things to play with you. They will, and you'll regret it. There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy...or my philosophy...whichever, both. Just because I haven't met a ghost doesn't mean they don't exist.

Hellion said...

I think it's sweet and sad that Marnee's dad visits little Pirate. It's bittersweet, I guess... I wonder if our guardian angels are actually spirits of our relatives or something...

terrio said...

Chill out there, Captain. I was only harrassing the Ninja. Sheesh. LOL!

And I had never heard of or seen a ouija board before that summer. Didn't know what it was. So I wasn't smart enough to know to avoid it. And it's not like it did anything to me. In fact, it tried to warn me. LOL! It's my own fault that I didn't listen.

Anyone ever watch John Edward? (The medium, not the candidate.) I love that show and I'd love to get a reading someday.

terrio said...

BTW - Did y'all notice the cake in the picture in the blog? Isn't that cool? It's the cover..on a cake. It's an edible cover. LOL! Everyone should have one of those.

Marnee Jo said...

I think that my dad visiting my kid at night is bittersweet too, when I think about it. But it's usually in the middle of the night and my kid's wide awake cracking up or something, staring and pointing into the corner of the room and I'm always like, "Dad, I'm tired. Come back some other time, k?"

Sin said...

I loved the cover on the cake!! I was reading the blog and I got to that picture and I thought, "Hm. I wondered if someone made a cardboard memory page for her," and then I realized it was frosting and cake!! Woo! That is super uber neat!

I like being harrassed.

Hellion- I swear, I'm not stepping a foot into your house because if your ghost dude acosts me, I might never be the same :( Older houses have charm and personality. I've always wanted to own an older house but I think eventually it would drive me crazy.

And the Ouija board? It can say whatever it wants on the box. The box isn't the one doing the talking. It's a medium, just like that faker John Edwards. I've never seen his show, but most people who can use their talents to medium don't profit from it. It makes them crazy. To find someone's who really a medium, you'd probably have to go to your local mental institute or know someone who knows someone who knows someone who's a hermit.

But the Ouija board takes a little bit of belief too. It's a dangerous combination to have inexperience and belief and put that energy into the Ouija board.

Marnee Jo said...

And the cake is awesome!

terrio said...

I don't get that about the John Edward thing. What's wrong with using a gift to make a living. Everyone does it. It's the same as a songwriter or a singer or a painter. God gives you a gift and you figure out how to use it to make a living. Makes perfect sense to me. And I've been watching him for a while. I'm very cynical when it comes to stuff like that, but I believe him.

ReneeLynnScott said...

Darn, I was just at B&N last night. It was a quick run and I didn't even make it to the romance section. Looks like I'll have to go back. This is definitely one book I'd love to get my hands on. The plot sounds very intriguing.

I love having my Scottish and Irish heritage. I won't say much on 'the sight' except that I truly believe in it, for reasons I won't say. And it should never, ever be used for selfish gain, including the lottery. ;)

Renee - Way to leave us all guessing that way. LOL!

BTW - Aunty will be here today, she's just on the West Coast and a late riser. Which means she fits in on a pirate ship perfectly. LOL!

ReneeLynnScott said...

I messed with a Ouija board once. Good Lord, scared the living shit out of me too! I was a senior in high school. My best friend was having a Halloween party. Since I helped set the dang thing up, there's no way in hell it was rigged. Anyway, my bf was adopted, and of course his adoptive parents weren't the nicest, there were more than just wandering spirits in the house if you know what I mean, his father was a big wig for Corona or something, I know there was a lot of alcohol stored in the cellar. My first experience with Captain Morgan. LOL Oh the memories.

Anyway, we started asking questions and they were being answered but they were things we all knew, but it was kind of freaky. Then a question was asked that no body could have known the answer too except my bf, myself and one other, getting freakier. We asked who we were talking to, turned out it was bf's real mom. It was crazy, because bf was angry at his real mom for putting him up for adoption in the hell hole he was in, and here she was talking to him through a Ouija board. I mean oh hell, right? When bf called the person we were talking to a liar, all the flippin candles blew out at once.

I ran out of the f-ing house. And didn't go back. My boyfriend at the time followed me out and tried to convince me it wasn't real.

Okaaaay... Well, I worked in a metaphysical bookstore for a few years and terrio, you're right. It's a skill like any other and most psychics are not pulling in the big bucks anyway. They're like us...just doing what they can with what they have.

Personal spooky stories...not really spooky. More comforting. I hear my old cat, Smudge, now and then. He worked in the bookstore with me...and his bell just sounds off now and again. When I brought the new cat home, I heard it jingle the way it did when he dashed about. He approved!

Same thing with my beagle. Wake up now and then feeling him snuggled up next to me. Gone 5 years now.

The best was my Dad. Woke up in the midst of a great hug from him several months after he was gone. I was awake enough to know what was going on and just ran with it, so glad to feel him and know he was OK. Told me he was stable now. Woke up crying, but good tears.

I guess my spook stories aren't spooky! Mom asked if I saw a light when I "died" ... Wasn't my time, no light, no voices, just nothing.

Book sounds great, I'll look for it this weekend.

terrio said...

2nd - Nice spooky is good too. I've heard before about pets sticking around. Nice to know the cat approved of the replacement. Wonder what would have happened if he didn't approve?

I never think of the near death thing as something paranormal, though I guess it qualifies. Either way, I don't ever want to experience something like that. Not sure why, just don't.

WOW! Great to see everyone here and chatting away. Some of your stories are making my hair stand on end and it's NOT a pretty sight. Which reminds me, what happened to the gorilla piccie, Terrio?

And yes, that cake was AWESOME looking and tasting! One of the local grocery stores here made it and the cover part was completely edible. One of my good friends had send an email about the manly bosom on the cover, so I cut a piece that included the bare chest and yelled, "Where's Katherine? She needs this manly bosom!"

Nice to see Banditas out and about so early in the day. Or maybe you've just not been asleep yet?

Speaking of the AWESOMELY TALENTED Banditas, Caren just took first place in the Indiana Golden Opportunity contest, and Christie's debut release won the New Jersy Golden Leaf! See what I mean about sometimes feeling like a slacker?!?!

Thanx a BUNCH for stopping by you two, and LOL Christie on any ghosts in your house being nutty relatives. I have quite a few of those, on both sides of the Great Hereafter. ;-)

The Wild Sight is on my TBB list, but I haven't found it locally . I haven't found the new Elizabeth Hoyt either. GRRR! Maybe I'll fare better in the city this weekend.

I'm another who will never touch a Ouija board. I had a bad experience as an undergrad when a friend attempted suicide because of something the OB said.

My only experiences with the paranormal have been benevolent. I had a wreck once that should have ended with my car totaled and me dead. I didn't have a scratch and the only damage to the car was a warped wheel. I know that I wasn't the one who controlled that car. I believe in guardian angels.

Maggie, sleep deprived new moms are not accountable for anything they see, say or do! I hope Great Aunt Helen at least offered to burp the baby!

ROFLOL Hellion, I think I dated some of those same "paranormal" types when I was single. Okay, maybe they were the... er, um OLDER BROTHERS of the ones you dates. (Aunty shudders at the thought of those guys reproducing.) Now THAT is scary!

And sounds like poor Donnell didn't need the hair rollers after that close encounter in your house. That experience would be enough to curl (or straighten) your hair!

Marnee Jo,
Your luck is like mine. Having some pimply faced, pervy teen ghost watching me sounds like just my luck. :-P But I loved the story of your Dad visiting your son. Too bad he picked the middle of the night, but that seems to be par for the course for paranormal activities. Bright sunlight is just not conducive to ghoulies and beasties apparently.

Hi, Cindy and Terri, great interview. I never get tired of hearing about Cindy's debut book. Since I got to read it first, I can speak with authority when I say it's wonderful and great read!

I don't have any paranormal stories to tell, but I love a good ghost story and my grandchildren are following suit. I just have to be sure to clean them up for the little kiddies LOL.

My favorite scary movie is the old black and white version of "Night of the Living Dead." Even all these years later, it has the power to scare the dickens out of me.

Congratulations, Cindy, and may you finally get a moment of easy breathing after all your guest blogging. I'm sure it'll all pay off in huge sales numbers.

AC - I admit, it was late last night when I was doing this and I couldn't for the life of me find that picture. As it is, I added the cake this morning. LOL!

Jo - I don't do scary movies since I had terrible nightmares as a child. But somehow I agreed to go on a haunted hayride tonight. There's also a haunted corn field to walk through but I'm not sure I'll have the nerve to do that one!

Sin, can't WAIT to hear your ghost story!

My stars! You have all had quite some experiences with Ouija boards! Warning, indeed, Terrio! HA!

I had one friend in high school who insisted on bringing her Ouija out at every slumber party. The rest of us just believed that she was pushing the marker around coz whenever we asked about future mates, the thing inevitably went to the initials of whomever we were crushing on at the time. ;-)
Nothing scary or profound about that, I'm afraid.

2nd, what a KEWL story about your cat. After I lost my 16 year old Schipperke, I swear I caught fleeting glimpses of her every time I turned around... until I brought another dog into the house. I guess that satisfied her.

I do sometimes have very vivid dreams of my mother, whom we lost in 1999, so I KNOW she knows about the book and all. Ditto my grandmother, who passed in 1982, but still occasionally comes to me in dreams. Is that a Celtic (Irish, Scottish) thing? But like you said, it's always positive.

Hope you enjoy The Wild Sight!

Renee,
You bring up an interesting point... And I was only joking about the Lottery BUT (Aunty's big but) I can't help but think that all these self-proclaimed psychics WOULD try to win the lottery, just to prove they are genuine.

I heard and read articles on how people like John Edward pattern their questions and answers so that they "appear" to say more than they actually know. Plus they are able to "interpret" from answers. I was watching Sylvia Browne on a talk show once when I was getting a pedicure and the woman guest told Sylvia she'd lost her engagement ring. I said, aloud "Look in the the trap of your bathroom sink." And guess what the next words out of psychic Sylvia's mouth were? C'mon! Where's the FIRST PLACE you look for a missing ring?

Or perhaps we should indulge in a few Irish (or any other ethnicity of your choice) curses? Here's a favorite of mine: May the devil take his head and make a day's work of his neck.

Aunty must run out and do some errands, but I promise to be back later and am eager to hear more ghostly tales!

I have dreams where my mother visits me too.

Oh, another spooky story, and probably why Donnell's hair was curling. Apparently in my town, there was this Amityville Horror type house. A family of five (maybe 6?) hanged themselves. I have to email Nicki about it--she'd probably remember more of the details. Something about them being in the house and they could see the corpses hanging or something...it was crazy spooky.

The spookiest movie--besides Sixth Sense, that one so wigged me--was The Twilight Zone. The plane story. OMG!

*slides rum down the bar to Ely*

That Amityville movie freaked me out. And I don't usually watch the reality para shows but I saw Paranormal State on A&E a couple nights ago and almost couldn't go to sleep because it freaked me out. Some ghost was haunting a girl in her home. It stuffed her down a laundry shoot then tried to drown her in her own bathtub to the point her mother had to pull her out. Then it would write or scratch words onto her skin. Totally freaked me out!

Think I'll stick with me ghostly pets... And hugs from Dad now and then... Irish gift? Mayhaps! His folks came from the old sod.

Scary movies? The first Alien had me asking my boyfriend to stay and sleep on the floor next to the bed... (Yes, one of those girls!)

The Blob had me scanning every opening into my room for years! LOL!

Here, my friend Nicki wrote back--here is what she said:

"I remember....I believe they moved in and one by one started to go insane and committed suicide. When you went to the house the trees leaned AWAY from the house and as we drove closer to the house I got cold and everything felt heavy, sick and hungry. Like there was an energy waiting to consume me. It was VERY scary. I refused to leave the car and was not happy to be there. I hope the house is gone now and that NO one rebuilt on that land."

I think Donnell had gone into the house or something, and whatever she felt or saw there completely wigged her.

Just hearing that story second (or third?) hand is making me uncomfortable. The trees leaned AWAY from the house? Now that's when you know something is up. *shivers*

Hellion are you talking about-- Oh hell. The name just escaped me. It was just across the property line of my grandparents on the main road. What is that, Sexton? You know, just down the street from the Carters?

Old lady Betina's house. The big white monstrosty on the corner that was never lit up at Halloween and the moonlight never touched it. Crap. It's going to bug me until I think of her last name.

Is that the house you're talking about? We always got warned not to walk anywhere close to her lawn. My best friend's grandparents were her neighbors. Scary, scary woman.

Great interview I don't think I have any that has happened to me other than often feeling like someone is standing near me but there isn't.

I gotta say though I have read The Wild Sight and it is truly an amazing wonderful book I loved it from start to finish the paranormal elements are so real I loved Hain and Ro. Donovan and Rylie are just so made for each other fantastic book Aunty Cindy well done huge congrats I loved it.

Nope, Sin, it was a house in Columbia, south of town. I bugged Nicki for more details, but remembering it freaked her out and she's gone to take her kid to preschool and forget we ever talked. *LOL*

Nicki said the house liked Donnell. That spirits were particularly drawn to Donnell--she had one of those auras or persnalities more sensitive to spirits. (I think Donnell was half Rom, now that I think on it.)

The movie that freaked me out when I was a kid was Cat's Eye---remember that Stephen King movie that was three stories into one? The one that got me all the time was that evil troll-like creature that would try to "steal" the young daughter's breath at night, but then I think the cat killed it or something. It freaked me out so much.

Hi AC!

Congrats again on the release of The Wild Sight. Sadly, it never showed up in any of my local stores but I have it on my tbb list at Amazon so, hopefully, I'll be reading it soon!

I've never communicated with a ghost or spirit, at least I don't think I have. We have a bit of the "sight" on my mom's side of the family. I can remember when I was a girl my mom would "know" things like the night she woke up from a sound sleep and told my dad her cousin (who lived in another state and she hadn't seen for several years) had been killed in an auto accident. We got the call the next morning. Mom also knew she would die young. Sure enough, one afternoon she took a nap and never woke up. She was 53. I've inherited a bit of her ability and have learned over the years to listen when that little voice inside my head speaks.

Hey Everyone,
Aunty is BAAACK! And I brought a couple of cabana boys from the Lair with me. One is wearing orange and one black in honor of Halloween! They are mixing up some special Bandita rum punch for all of us to wash away the scary stories!

YIKES on that Amityville-type house! I'm with Terrio, if the trees are leaning away, I do NOT wanna go near there!

2nd,
I'm with you, the first Alien scared the You-Know-What outta me! Ditto with John Carpenter's The Thing. ACK!!! But the movies that really truly scare me are the ones with psychopathic characters, like "Incredible Mr. Ripley." Matt Damon's portrayal was sooo scary!!! Flesh and blood people scare me a lot more than ghosts and things that go bump.

AAWWW! Thanx for being my #1 fan, Helen!

I'm thrilled that you loved The Wild Sight! So many of the things in the story (like Hain, Ro, and Donovan being childhood playmates) just happened without in planning on my part. I LOVE when that happens in my writing, and the characters and story just take over.

Elyssa,
I never saw that movie, but Stephen King novels SCARE ME! I could NOT read "Salem's Lot" after dark! I lived in the middle of freakin nowhere at the time and as soon as I finished that book, I gave it away. I did not want it sitting on my bookshelf! In fact, the only Stephen King book I have permanently on my keeper shelf is "On Writing" and even that one has some very scary passages where he talks about his drug addiction and the hit and run driver who nearly killed him.

HUGS PJ!
thanx for sharing the story about your mom! This is the kind of "sight" stuff I grew up with... people having premonitions and the like. I don't have anything so clear cut, but I do have what I call my "gut reactions." Those times when you just know something is or isn't right. Most people call it intuition. This was especially useful when I was managing a state program that required hiring a LOT of people. I always did a "gut check" before I hired someone, no matter how well they did on the interview. And every time I went against my gut, I regretted it!

Hope you have better luck ordering The Wild Sight on Amazon!

Also, anyone who would like an autographed bookplate for your copy of TWS, just email (via my website) your snail mail address and I'll send you one.

Phew, I finally made it!

I can't wait to get my paws on this book. AC told me about it at National and here it is - published. How cool is that?

Love the cover and as a lover of all things Celtic I know I'm going to love Donovan's story. LOVE the name, btw!
