OWN IT, BABY

We’re starting today with a video. Now, once you start to watch this, you’re probably going to think, “WTF is she making watch this for?” I have a reason, just stay with me. (Also, not PG-13 language so watch for little ears around.)

We've been talking about positivity forever on this ship, but today, we’re going to OWN IT. Whatever that IT is for you, today is the day you rock that thing, embrace IT, and let the world know how awesome IT is.

Mr. Mackelmore here is clearly not mainstream, in his music or his style. This song is all about rocking what you have, standing out from the crowd, and OWNING IT.

Today, we are going to follow Mackelmore’s example. Now, I don’t suggest wearing a used fur that smells like R Kelly’s sheets. (Even contemplating this scenario makes me ill.) BUT, maybe your stories are outside the box. Maybe there are aliens. Maybe your protagonists are pretty famously portrayed in another book. Maybe your stories are down the middle as mainstream as they can get.

Whatever they are, OWN THEM.

And not to leave out our non-writing visitors, this could apply to anything. You only wear those extra tight leopard print yoga pants when no one else is around? Pull ‘em out. Today, you’re going to OWN THEM. You like to eat ranch dressing on your sushi? OWN IT. Dance around naked after your shower to a little Mackelmore? You OWN THAT, honey child.

All hands on deck. Time to OWN IT. What are you standing up for today?

PS: The Look Inside feature for MEANT TO BE is now live on Amazon. Check it out HERE!

Digging out my ranch dressing as we speak. *LOL*

I will be owning my bookshelf of odd guru books without explaining why I'm interested in occultish like things. Oh, and the sex books I have too. I'm totally Hermione about basically everything I do.

Also owning the fact I like heroes who are rather jerky and will eventually need to grovel...I love them because I like having the heroines outdo them in nearly every way. :)

You go on with your ranch dressing and sexy books, Hellie. (Though maybe not at the same time. Heh.)

I'm getting a new computer here at work today so might disappear for a stretch, but I'll check back in as soon as I'm up and running.

Oh what a push today!

First off - I'm owning that I'm that girl on Facebook that posts her workouts and meals. I admit it - I know to some it can be annoying, but it keeps me on track to have to look back at what I posted. Plus, I have students who take my classes that say they are motivated by it. At least I understand I'm annoying and I can laugh at myself!

2nd - I'm owning the fact that I need to buy outfits from the mannequin. I'm just not one of those super stylish people who can throw things together. I need that whole look as one to get it right!

3rd - I'm over working for someone else. Not only do I want to write, but I've decided I want to work for myself. I'm starting a plan to make that happen within a year. I'll talk more about it when it's more concrete but I've been quiet because the hubby and I both are making big plans and changes. :)

How's that to start?

Brilliant, Sabrina! And I do not find your workout/food plan updates annoying. I don't always read them in detail lol but not annoying!

Good luck with whatever you and hubby have brewing. We'll definitely be cheering you on from here. (And I soooooooo want to work for myself. You have no idea.)

Sorry I'm slow to deck today.

But, I'm owning wanting to write in different genres. I love writing my historicals and I like writing elsewhere too. At the same time.

I'm also owning what happens with my writing. I've been thinking a lot about where my career should go. I haven't made exact decisions yet, but I have been thinking about some things. We'll see how it plays out. I think I need a new game plan, some what ifs and some "I can"s. :)

Everyone is being all mysterious today. 2013 must be the year of big changes. Huzzah to all!

PS this is my favorite song right now. Great message.

Terri Osburn said...

It's infectious, isn't it, Marn? I admit, I sing along in the car. Though that's edited version, which jars me because, as you tell from this video, there are a lot of places where they have to drop words. LOL!

Oh, it's not really a secret. I'll say it. I'm planning to write these New Adults. I want to get ahead of it, get a couple of them done, and then self-publish them.

I'm not saying that if I get other options or possibilities that I'll disregard. But, I started thinking that those stories would be great if I ever want to self-pub. So what's stopping me?

Marnee Bailey said...

I do want to make sure I have the time to devote to self-publishing, though. That's why I want to get ahead of the production. The youngest will be in preschool next year and the oldest will be in school full time. I'm hoping that gives me more time to devote to it.

At least that's the tentative plan. It's a better game plan than what I had going.

Terri Osburn said...

I'm not even self-publishing and it feels like another full-time job. And I don't feel like I'm doing nearly enough.

I own...everything. Damn, got me on a day when I'm not feeling loved so this is hard!

I really like that fur coat...Goodwill here in Santa Cruz is a goldmine, but twenty bucks wouldn't buy you much. They know they're a goldmine and are robber barons.

I will get the books out. All of them. Even if I have an audience of twenty. I will love them and write for them.

I'm not doing very good on this...

I'm with Sabrina on posting my workouts on FB, it helps me stay honest with myself... And I love my elliptical.

I own pirate hats and I wear them. I write pirate books and they don't fit a niche but they are mine and I love them. I am working on owning enough dresses and outfits that have pirate stuff on them so that is all I wear at the conventions I go to...

I love my therapists, both of them.

Better?

Terri Osburn said...

There is no right or wrong answer! But I do love the pirate stuff you wear. Own your piracy. Well, maybe that's not the right word. Pirate persona. That's better.

And I'll say it again. I'm totally jealous of your elliptical.

Maureen said...

And I would so rock that fur coat. (But I'd get it cleaned first.)

I only find Sabrina's FB updates annoying if I'm reading about her brown rice, tilapia, and steamed spinach--and I'm eating General Tso's Chicken...with white rice. I feel extremely naughty. *LOL*

Though I do love spinach...and tilapia. (Brown rice takes a bit more work for me.)

The MIL gave us this 50 pound bag of brown rice for Christmas. Delish stuff and we cook it in a rice cooker. Takes a little longer and best to use a bit of nonstick spray in the cooker. And a bit more water...but it is wonderful stuff. Smells like baking bread...

Terri Osburn said...

What is this rice stuff y'all are talking about?

:)

I do like tilapia.
