Black Friday

A funny thing happened on the way to Thanksgiving... I stayed home. With the dog. But it's fine, we had a good day and I made my favorite crock pot recipe so all was peachy.

It's done with and maybe next year we can manage a day together with a turkey. Though I have a new friend who owns chickens and by next year, she may have me converted to not eating our feathered friends... She's working on it!

So, Black Friday... Me? A movie, maybe. Shopping? Not a chance! Now, it's possible the husband will want to venture out. He does have my birthday to buy for...

Which is the 7th of December, by the way.

;-)

So...once upon a time, Black Friday meant other things...

I'd probably like it more this way...

What about you? Shopping? Recovering from the coma? Writing? (I do hope to write.) Hope whatever you do, you had a great time yesterday and in the days to come!

I'm going to clean and do some decorating for Christmas. When I'm done with that, I'm going to write.

Or, in the middle when I need a break, I'm going to write.

I had a good Thanksgiving though. Food was great. Still have left over pie. Life is good.

I'm at work. Kiddo ventured into the night with her BFF (and her BFF's mom) for late night shopping. Can't wait to hear the stories on that one.

I'm considering a stop at the Wally World down the street on the way home from work. There is one last present for Kiddo I need and this would be the prime time to get it. Maybe. We'll see if I have the courage when the time comes.

No shopping for me today, unless it's online. I'm reserving the afternoon to read and rest and enjoy lovely silence. The last two grands depart after lunch today, and although I've loved the giggles and games and stories and hugs, I am so-o-o anticipating blessed silence--no multiple TVs, video games, ducks on You Tube, or balloon fights. I think I have seriously undervalued the gift of an environment free of irritating noise.

Ducks on YouTube?

That so needs to be the title of a book.

I slept in, obviously...

Pie, Marn... I am jealous. I went searching for a frozen pumpkin pie on Wednesday night, after reading about on FB how everyone was enjoying the scent of their pies baking.

They were out of them.

I got peach turnovers.

They were good, but they weren't pie.

Terri, your daughter is so brave. Though I suppose it could have been something done for pure entertainment.

I don't think you could have bribed me into a Walmart last night, even with a pie.

Work? How unAmerican!

I may, possibly, venture into the small mall we have locally. Not sure it's worth it. I don't have anything massive to buy, but I'm just a little...curious.

Walmart? Nope. And really, the idea that KMart was open yesterday at 6am for Thanksgiving shoppers just strikes me as greed personified. Give people a day off! Geez!

Janga. Ducks on YouTube. I don't know what to say...

Yesterday for an hour, I sat in my Starbucks. They were open but closing early so their employees could go home and be with their families, or go to Walmart if they wanted to...and at the table in front me was a family. Two adults, three kids, mostly teenagers.

With the adverts spread between them. And pens. Seriously planning their shopping trips.

Well, they were together...a family united.

To shop.

What the hell, why not, I guess!

Remember the Muppets and Pigs in Space?

I keep hearing the voice doing Ducks on YouTube!

Maybe I need to get out of the house...

I need to make a sweet potato casserole for Round #2 tomorrow! The DH is killing zombies, the DS is blowing something up downstairs on Xbox, the DD is at work and I'm heading up to my sitting room to dive into a Christmas book! Haven't decide which one yet. Maybe Carla Kelly's Marian's Christmas Wish.

I'm contemplating heading out for some groceries but I think I may wait til I can drag the DH out with me. There is no way I'm heading out to Black Friday shop. I did get a couple of good deals this morning online, but that's the extent of my Black Friday participation. We came home last night and passed a Target and Walmart at 9 pm. Both lots and the connecting lots (where the stores were closed) were packed! Craziness!

I'd need a hotel room overlooking Union Square in San Francisco and two nights with a bunch if cash before I'd tackle that Macys. That might do it.

Otherwise, I'm with you Irish!

And it's funny, I saved a bunch of emails announcing deals for today... Haven't visited any of them...doubt I will.

I've decided that I won't be buying much in the gift category. I'm making cinnamon rolls. Which aren't easy, but I get Steph to help and we'll get an assembly line going... Very few purchased gifts this year...

These are my Mum's cinnamon rolls and they are to die for. I've already heard from family members when I announced on FB that I would be baking and recieved a fair amount of grins in reply...

There is no Black Friday cinnamon roll shortcut.

I ventured out for a movie--I wanted to see Lincoln, but it was sold out so after some convincing, my friends talked me into seeing LIFE OF PI, which was really good. Enjoyed it much.

Now I've got a rental: SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD. Am cooking some Indian food (Life of Pi was very influential!)--and chilling out.

It actually wasn't bad at Walmart around 2p. I think avoiding the late night shoppers was the trick. By this afternoon they were all gone.

I may venture into our little mall tomorrow... I also need a Cinnabon somewhere so I can get some really good cinnamon. Or maybe Trader Joes...

Life of Pi, looks awesome...for the effects if nothing else. Let me know how 'Seeking...' is. I remember the previews and thought it looked interesting.

I don't even know how to make Indian food... ;-)

I try to never step inside of Walmart. Yup, I'm Santa Cruz-ian enough to do my best to avoid that capitalistic monster... Unless I'm with Mom, I will pretty much take her anywhere she wants to go.

Though all those incredible pics from Walmart of people shopping in their underwear??? Never seen that in one of my Walmarts...

I imagine by this afternoon most of the insane shoppers had gone home...

Did you get what you needed, Ter?

Terri Osburn said...

Nope. They didn't have what I was looking for. And I'm poor enough to not have the option to avoid the capitalist giant. :)

I'll check out KMart, even Target...but Walmart creeps me out. Probably no worse than the others!
