A Prince Among Men

As we all know, I'm not a big fan of dukes. I mean, I like them, but I do find they seem to overpopulate in literature much more than they actually could have possibly exist. And before anyone reminds me it's "fiction", the first thing any good author must do is be able to suspend the reality of their reader into believing: That could have happened that way. Honestly I think dukes have replaced "princes" in fiction. For a while there, there were a lot of princes-without-a-country populating the fiction. Now that's a fantasy: what little girl doesn't dream about growing up to be a princess and marrying a prince? Especially if he looked like this:

Even if he's just as likely to cut off your head as keep you. (Picky, picky.)

Then there's Victoria's sugar baby. Rupert certainly is sexier than a pack of dukes!

But even the real thing isn't bad to look at either. If I were only a little younger, born in a different country, and completely hot, I might have been a contender:

Okay, the last one doesn't count because he's already married...but he did marry a commoner from another country, so that's pretty much a modern day fairy tale right there!

So: did you ever want to be a princess when you grew up? (Have the whole Cinderella fantasy, believe your sisters were actually stepsisters and the whole bit?) Anyone a fan of the show The Tudors? Anyone following the William and Kate (When Will He Propose?) articles like I am?

Honestly, no. I wanted to be an archeologist and discover the next King Tut stuff.

Nice pics though... Never been a royalty follower, but always find it interesting that the fiction outdoes the factual. 'Course!

I'll be on the road with Jane again for a few days, so will miss out on all the brilliant observations and comments. About half the postcards I put out disappeared, hopefully into bags of people who will look at the address not just admire the picture...

Be back in California Friday in time to blog with the crew!

I have to say I'm watching and waiting for Wills to propose. I think Kate Middleton is adorable. And I think both the heir and the spare are just the cutest. Young, but cute.

That Harry looks like he's got rake written all over him.

Good choices!

Nice pics -- although I have to admit I like Rupert's CLOTHES more than his demeanor. LOL

I used to be more fond of Wills, but that devilish aspect of Harry is SO much more intriguing now. :)

Hmmm....what a lovely blog to wake up to. I've long enjoyed watching the royal escapades. I think part of it stems from my grandmother being born in England.

I find them fascinating mostly because they are ordinary people in extraordinary circumstance who often have the same problems as the rest of us. Just this week I read an article about a princess (Holland or Denmark - can't remember) who was about to marry her boyfriend of eight years only to learn now he's a phillanderer.

It's not all crowns and glass slippers, ya know? Not that I'd turn away a prince, just sayin'. :)

I just realized it's my Half Birthday, so I need to celebrate--

What's that? I can have my pick of the princes? Ooooh. I can't decide. I'll take all of them! LOL

I was huge into the whole fairytale thing when I was younger. I followed the whole Di and Charles debacle from beginning to tragic end.

I realized as I got older that being a princess would be a huge pain in the ass, though. I'm kind of private and the paparazzi and tabloids would really drive me bonkers. I'm not sure even the love of my life would be worth all of that.

So, now instead of thinking - "wow she's nabbed herself a prince", I think - "wow she must really love him to put up with everything she's going to have to put up with for the rest of her life".

I've seen about half the episodes from Season 1. I haven't even gotten to the part where he marries Anne yet. I kind of lost interest but plan to pick it up again. I'm just not clicking with the actress who plays Anne. Jonathan does a fabulous job of portraying a spoiled, neurotic SOB, though!

Well, I finally got the end of my HOA list, and I *HAVE* to clean today. Fortunately I don't mind half-ass jobs, so it probably won't take that long before I can live with everything again. (Then I can do laundry, et al, which is my reward after cleaning. *LOL*)

2nd: I can totally see you as an archeologist. Have fun and be safe with Jane; and we'll be waiting to hear your first hand account of RT on Friday! (Or eventually. Whatever.)

Marn: A fellow royalty sister! I knew it! Aren't those two ADORABLE? And Harry is definitely growing on me for that very reason.

Donna: Have you seen The Young Victoria? It's his behavior with her that makes him the sexiest, I swear. He's so hawt! Go and add this to your HOA--you need to watch it for research! Do it for your half-birthday!

Bo'sun: Exactly, ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. (Guess that's the appeal of dukes too, but still, a prince is REAL royalty! *LOL* And I love their real scandals too.)

Irish: Jonathan really does the SOB well, doesn't he? I couldnt' watch the series either, and not just because I didn't get the station. My friend owns the series and I couldn't concentrate through the first show. "Really? For this asshole?" I too loved watching the Charles and Di stuff unfold. It was very Cinderella, only instead of a HEA, the prince turned out to be a bit of a toad. (I mean, I'm sure she wasn't sunshine and roses either, but you did tend to feel more sorry for her. Without the media even trying. *LOL*)

As we all know, I’m not a big fan of dukes.

Nether am I My Darling Hellion! I say Let Sleeping D(ukes)ogs Lie! I refuse to be A Duchess. I’d only be a Princess if I could be a Runaway Princess. Though I DO consider myself the QUEEN of My Domain. IE the kitchen … the utility room … and of course the bedroom!
