The Cinema Pirates that Inspire Me
We all ‘ad ta start somewhere. I had several more I feel strongly ‘bout…but a good pic of Kevin Kline as the Pirate King from Pirates of Penzance escaped me! Dang it! Nor a good one a’ Robert Shaw from Swashbuckler…
Captain Blood – Errol Flynn (The King.)
Morgan Adams – Gina Davis – for Q (Hey, I don’t care if’n Cutthroat Island were panned, she were fun ta watch!)
The Pirate – Gene Kelley (There be something ‘bout singin’ pirates…)
Sabrina, from Pirates! – Janine – for Q (Aye, it were an X-rated movie, but it were still excellent!)
Pirate Jean Lafitte – Yul Brenner (Early memory a’ this movie and how I fell in love wit’ Lafitte!)
The Crimson Pirate – Burt Lancaster (Who could resist his smile!)
What ‘bout you crew, ya got a cinematic pirate that inspired ya to developin’ yer piratitude? (And aye, Jack ain’t here…I was tryin’ ta delve back in history…. Next time, Jack…)

Are you back from the cruise so soon Chance?
I hope you had a fabulous time!
Gina Davies looks good. Very good. Much as I envisage Miranda when in 'Fight or Flight' mode. :D
Janine looks gorgeous as well. Am I allowed to say that aboard a pirate vessel?
She reminds me of Miranda when looking to recharge her magic.
Your doing great in this Hottie role Chance. The best by far to date. :D
All the other pirates ignored me.
I think that the only one I have seen is Gina Davis. And I can't even recall the movie now.
But these guys are lovely. Good job.
Hope you had a great trip!!
Ahoy! I be back on land, jus' this mornin'! Glad ya liked Janine, Q. I guess the censors didn't like her as she's gone from me window... She were one spicy pirate wench...
I'm tryin' ta keep ya happy, Q-ster!
Marnee...ya always make me feel so old... LOL! Aye, Gina were in Cutthroat Island... The Yule Brenner one is really old...but I loved him as Lafitte! And Burt Lancaster was a darlin' pirate! That one ya gots ta see!
Wait! Janine showed up! I guess she's jus' bein' a woman...takin' her time!
Cap'n...there were talk a' doin' a movie with Gina as Anne Bonney and Michelle Phiffer as Mary Swann... That would'a been sweet!
Lookin' ferward ta bein' home and back at the bar! Soon as this Starbucks stops swayin'...!
Jack was my inspiration for this blog. He's who wrote the guidelines to being a pirate writer, you see, so I owe him all that credit and more.
But I too enjoyed Cutthroat Island (though it was panned)--and I own it; and I love Gene Kelly in just about anything but he was smoking hot in The Pirate (those shorts!)--even though he was only pretending to be a pirate in that story. *LOL*
I also happen to have the adult film of Pirates, which was quite entertaining. I think the blonde captain guy is hilarious.
I also have the movie The Black Swan--which has this hilarious scene where the pirate is carrying the girl over one shoulder, sees his buddies and promptly drops her to greet them with open arms.
But I remember reading a number of pirate romances when I was younger--and that started my love of pirates. (The pirates were always lords in disguise, but whatever.) The Windflower, The Pirate Lord, et al. (I need to go dig them out and write them here, but I'm too lazy...it's Sunday. Rest assured I read a lot of pirate romances...as many as Westerns, which I was also fond of...)
I'm pretty sure Chance gets the overachiever's award for the hotties. She doesn't skimp and takes care of everyone. I cut my teeth reading pirate Romances, but I actually haven't seen most of these movies. Someday kiddo and I will do a Pirate cinema marathon.
Chance, sweets, I'm not that young. We just didn't have access to much tv or movies when I was growing up. My real intro to pop culture didn't hit until I started college in the mid 90s.
Bo'sun - I'd love ta introduce ya to pirate movies... I may bring along me stash ta Nashville...or lend 'em ta ya... Everyone should see a few a' them!
Hel - Evan Stone is hilarious in most of the movies I've seen him in. The Star Wars spoof where he plays the Han Solo character is priceless!
Oddly enough...I don't remember reading any pirate books other than Treasure Island! I am pathetic... But I did watch every movie, every tv thing...all of it. And loved to ride Peter Pan Ride at Disneyland!
Marn - One day, we have a big pirate movie marathon. Wit' Terrio!
BTW - Hel!? Jack were wonderful...as always! I do adore watchin' 'im...move. Lie. Fight. Tell the truth...scheme. I swear, one a' me favorite things be when he figured out the green flash in the last movie and jus' started rockin' the boat! And the rest jus' looked at 'im like 'e were mad. Save fer Gibbs, who always figures Jack has a plan...
Mo, that sounds fabulous. I think I could dig some hottie pirate movies. :)
Sounds good to me. Except, seeing as kiddo is part of the deal, you'll have to leave at least one of those movies off the list. :)
Yes, I'll save the x-rated one fer ya alone...
