Writing Queen

I'm having complete and absolute Blogger's Block this week. Nothing witty, nothing pithy, and certainly nothing writer related. However, I did see Mamma Mia! last Friday and can't stop singing ABBA songs. So I re-wrote one of the songs in a bid to help me get back on track with my writing, of which I've been doing less and less (does anyone else spend the hottest parts of the day sleeping like a lizard and wondering when it will cease to be so damned hot? And also wondering: who the hell lives in Arizona on purpose?). Maybe it will inspire your writing as well.

You can write, you can scribe
having the time of your life
script that hook, create that scene
dig in you Writing Queen

Monday night and the lights are bright
looking out for the word that’s right
where the scene unfolds like
A bedsheet caught on air—
You’re writing like you haven’t got a care.

Your hero could be that guy
The singer who always makes you sigh
Every time he holds the mike
Your heart’s about to spike
you're in the mood to sit and write
and when you’re done tonight….

You are the Writing Queen
Brilliant and witty on stage and screen
Writing Queen
feel the heat from the sheets between
you can write, you can scribe
having the time of your life
script that hook, create that scene
dig in you Writing Queen.

In the meantime, I better get back to Chapter 3. It won't write itself, though I've given it PLENTY of opportunity to do so. Here's your chance: how should I start Chapter 3? Here are the options: A) With a fist fight/brawl; B) Getting lost; C) Sex; or D) A midget walks into the room and says, "Okay, everyone out of the pool!" (No offense to midgets--it will be a vertically challenged person of moderate size, of course.) You see what I'm working with here. If you have an E) or F) to offer and I can use it, I'll send you a prize package. I swear. Pirate's honor.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to not let heat and humidity suck out every breath of creativity? And also, has anyone seen Mamma Mia yet and loved it?

Goodness, the script of our site is all jacked up. :(

I like a fight. A fight between the hero and heroine is always fun.

I haven't seen Mamma Mia yet, but if (and this is a huge if) I get to the movies soon, we'll probably see Dark Knight. Then it'll be months until Harry Potter is out, then I"ll have to see Twilight in Dec too.

Looks like the ship is staging its own mutiny. LOL! This should be interesting today. I'd try to fix it, but I'd have more luck performing brain surgery.

It would help us to determine how you could start chapter 3 if we knew how you ended chapter 2. Just sayin'.

For now, I'll go with option B) Getting lost. People get to frustrated and irritable when they get lost, it'll most likely lead to a fist fight anyway. And then there's the make up sex in the pool of the cheesy motel they stay in which is when the Night Manager (said midget) orders for everyone to leave the pool.

Uhm...I think I just answered all of the above.

WTF?

Hellion said...

OKAY. It was FINE #*(%&#(*$&#)ING YESTERDAY. I QUIT.

Marnee Jo said...

A ha! We're working right now. For how long, who knows?

Is this Adam and Eve's book? You don't have to give me a prize; just let me read the book once you finish it!

E) They go to a museum that has an Adam and Eve exhibition. Hilarity ensues. Just think if they see paintings of how "Paradise" was.

F) Adam discovers Best Buy.

G) They're forced to bond, so they have to get a pet to learn about... something.

H) Um. Does one of them have a fear of snakes? Or apples? You can do something with that, if that were the case. I mean, what if Adam goes to the grocery market and sees apples and have "flashbacks."

I) Eve is a Martha Stewart type. Un-Martha her in the chapter.

I wish I could keep power longer than five minutes. Hellion, are you having power issues too or are you running on backup?

I saw Batman last Friday night and by far it's the best movie I've saw in the theater in a long time. Not to mention that Christian Bale is HAWT as batman. He's so dark and brooding. I want to throw him against the nearest wall and have my wicked way with him.

I can't wait, *read here, CAN'T WAIT* for Twilight to come out 12/12. I'm going to the midnight release and every day of the weekend. I'm asking for money for my birthday to see it four times in the course of four days. I'm beyond obsessed. I'm totally nutso.

Hellion said...

Ely, Eve is VERY Martha Stewart...and nearly all her recipes (I'm trying to come up with one for each chapter) has apples somewhere in it. Apple juice, apples, dried apples, applesauce...whatever... JUST TO IRK ADAM.

I've thought about Adam fearing snakes (though Lucy was a snake...and Lucy lived with them a long time) and he hates apples. Well, he eats them, but he prefers mangoes.

OOOOHhhhh, I love the BEST BUY idea! And I've thought about making them adopt a kitten. I figure Eve finds it and brings it home. Adam hates it, but it sleeps on his chest.

The Adam & Eve museum exhibit is inspired...I'll have to figure out how to work that in.

Glad to see the ship is back in shape. It made me seasick before.

Sex is always good (except when it's bad). When in doubt, write the sex scene. More and more books have it in the FIRST chapter.

I saw the play Mamma Mia and want to see the movie, altho it's getting mixed reviews. Apparently some people thing Meryl should have all her oscar nominations revoked.

Hellion said...

*NOTE TO SELF OF WHAT TO GET SIN FOR HER BIRTHDAY* You got it. Far be it from to judge obsessions. Besides, I'll probably be with you on at least one of the occasions. We can use it as "research".

I have no idea if we're running on backup. We haven't had power issues yet.

Hellion said...

It is not that bad. (Okay, Pierce Brosnan should NEVER sing again...but otherwise, it was frothy and fun, as an ABBA inspired musical should be.) I did read a lot of reviews about "lack of choreography", lots of skipping and waving of arms...but this was not a Britney Spears music video (thank God, because there would have been a lot less clothes).

And I was rather amused and intrigued at how they took a bunch of ABBA songs and actually strung them together in a comprehensive way.

I will complain: Colin Firth's part was WRONG. That should never, ever, ever be done to Mr. Darcy. That's all I'm saying.

Hellion said...

I would have them having sex, but they haven't HAD sex in over 6000 years. They're currently in a fight about it.

Irisheyes said...

I saw Mamma Mia Saturday night and thought it was a blast! I'm an ABBA fan and too was surprised that they could string all their songs together to create a coherent (or somewhat coherent) story.

I also thought that anyone that saw that movie and thought to complain about Meryl Streep after listening to Pierce Brosnan sing is out of their freakin' mind! I had absolutely no problem with her singing. He, on the other hand, just took his career in his very capable Bond hands and threw it out the window!

Although my sister was sitting next to me smiling as I was flinching through his numbers saying "I don't care, I don't care I still love him." Although he could probably put on a pink Tutu, try to do a couple of pirouettes across the screen while he was attempting to sing S.O.S. and she would still love him.

Hellion said...

The SOS was particularly hysterical. Though that awful song he did alone at the end almost undid me. He's not my favorite dishy Brit, but he is pretty.

Kathy said...

Hellion, I haven't seen Mamma Mia but I did see the Dark Knight. Dare I say it, Totally Radical!!! I'm a big comic fan and I absolutely love what they did with the characters. The ending... who knew? (No spoilers)

Okay, here's my go. Why if... the midget comes into the room and tells everyone to get out because his midget friend is 'lost' underneath the water bobbing for apples, and a fist fight ensues. Huahuahuahua!!!!

Just trying to help. :-)

Irisheyes said...

Yeah, I kept hoping someone would jump in and save him at the end there. Alas, he stood alone and died alone! I liked the dance numbers at the end with the whole cast. Waterloo is one of my guilty pleasures. Come to think of it, ABBA is one of my guilty pleasures. LOL

terrio said...

Oh, good to things righted again. Forgot to answer the q's. Saw Dark Knight last weekend - liked but didn't love. LOVED Heath's performance of course. But, left too wide open for me. What can I say, I'm used to things being all wrapped up at the end. I hate to be left hanging.

Going to see Mamma Mia this weekend. Haven't seen any of the reviews. They couldn't have possibly thought Meryl was doing this pic for Oscar attention. She has to be allowed to do fun stuff every once in a while. And now I'm dreading Pierce's singing. Dang it.

Hellion said...

No worries, Terri, he doesn't sing enough to be terrified of what he'll be like. You'll enjoy the rest of it too much to care.

terrio said...

Oh, good. I've loved him since Remington Steele (though I've never watched him as Bond) so I didn't want to lose my little girl crush completely. LOL!

Elyssa said...

I downloaded the Mamma Mia movie CD, and Pierce cannot sing. There were a few other songs that I was cringing at.

In the Broadway play, Colin Firth's character is the same reveal. But the Broadway CD to Mamma Mia is a lot better... the movie switched songs around and put people singing songs that they weren't before. Hollywood. Sigh.

Elyssa said...

And Sin, have you seen the new Twilight trailer??? That movie will kick ass when it releases. And I cannot wait for Breaking Dawn to come out!

Elyssa said...

Wait. Um, they killed Colin off in the movie?

That was not supposed to happen. Colin Firth's character is gay in the Broadway play; that's what I thought you meant.

Hellion said...

YES, that's what happened, but you never do that to MR. DARCY.

J.K. Coi said...

Whoo, this site looks a lot better now :)

I'm not quite sure how Mamma Mia works as a movie. I mean how do you make a movie out of a broadway show that's just a string of songs put together? There really isn't enough storyline for that. Unless it is just a musical that was filmed and marketed as a movie. I'll have to watch, since I do love ABBA and thought the musical was great.

And I'm so looking forward to the Twilight movie!

terrio said...

Gee, girls, thanks for not giving us any spoilers.

*grumbles off the boat*

Sin said...

Stupid freakin' email. Hellion- got your email. Can't email out. I'm no better. Have a burning sensation instead of numbness now. Prefer the numb to burning. lol.

Elyssa said...

Well, they didn't kill his character off in the Broadway play. Everyone, in fact, lived HEA. He was just gay in the musical, who had a fling with Donna (Meryl's character) long ago, and was in a relationship with another man now. But, no one died.

Sin said...

Ely, are you kidding? I get updates from every known site in Twilight land. I knew there was going to be a new trailer before it was posted. Got to see the Penelope DVD sneak peeks before the DVD came out. I'm totally obsessed.

I'm totally in love with Robert Pattinson playing Edward. He's perfect. When he says, "Are you afraid" I nearly melted in my seat!

I'm going to the midnight release party. Never doubt my nerdiness. LOL

Hellion said...

Crap, Sin, I'm sorry to hear that!! I hope you get to feeling better soon!! And I love your nerdiness. And the guy the show as playing Edward DOES look dead on...I mean, I looked and thought, "He's exactly as how Sin described him."

Hellion said...

Terri, sorry for putting out spoilers. Still, it's better you prepare yourself now.

And for the longest time I kept looking at the Bill character going, "I know that guy! Why do I know that guy?" and then when I looked it up later for reviews I saw the name and went, "OMG! Bootstrap BILL!"

terrio said...

So, I just watched the trailers for Twilight. THAT is a YA book? Wow! I like the second trailer better because it's about the relationship and not the action. But talk about action. Would it be the end of the world to go see the movie without reading the book?

And are the putting the plots of all three books in the movie? Or is it four books? Sorry, not up on my Twilight knowledge.

Marnee Jo said...

It's just the first book in the movie. Twilight.

I just read all three books last week and they are really good, Ter. You should read. Addictive.

Oh, and Robert Pattinson is ridiculously attractive.

Kelly Krysten said...

I have yet to see Mamma Mia! but I can't wait to. Also, great rewrite! Great blog!

terrio said...

I must be feeling my age because to me, he just looks like a pale kid young enough to be my son. LOL! Though in that one trailer, when she says she's not afraid of him and he finally smiles, there I can see how girls are going to fall for him.

Marnee - have you forgotten about my crazy schedule and towering TBR? LOL! Stop enticing!

Marnee Jo said...

LOL!! Sorry. They are just so full of angst, though and I know you love that.... And they have have two star-crossed lovers, like Romeo and Juliet. *sigh* And such a hunky hero.... *smiling my sweetest, most innocent smile*

But, I'm sure you are busy... who has time for all of that stuff....

Hellion said...

The clip looked so enticing, I've just dumped the whole series of books in my Amazon.com cart. MUST. NOT. BUY.

Am now scouting the used book store, to justify the expense.

Sin said...

Hellion-- They are fairly inexpensive at Walmart :)

Sin said...

I've known about the Twilight books for a while I just refused to read a YA series. Especially since it was so popular with the teen girls I figured it was ridiculously stupid.

Now who's ridiculously stupid for not reading them sooner? ME!

Sin said...

Or even Target.

Sin said...

And the Trailers don't do the book justice. I know they've gone off the beaten path with the books, but Stephanie Meyer said she loved everything she's seen so it can't be that far off of her vision. I just can't wait for that meadow scene *sighing* Or the end in the ballet studio with James. *evil grin*

terrio said...

Marn - Don't make me come up there.

Captain - Don't make me come over there.

Hellion said...

They're 45% off at Amazon with free shipping.

Sin, you are the DEVIL.

Hellion said...

Okay, the library has the books on CD, which is how I enjoy "reading" them nowadays anyway. I will try to abstain from buying the books. *sticks fingers in her ears to ignore Sin*

terrio said...

Don't let Sin keep you from your Irish pub singer. He's waiting for you!

Hellion said...

That's true. I'm very excited to find and marry my Irish pub singer. *LOL* Whoever the hell he is.

Sin said...

You have an Irish pub singer?

Finally! They get the damn books on CD! They've been on order FOREVER.

Hellion said...

No, but I *WILL* have an Irish pub singer as soon as I go to Ireland. Which is why I can't buy the books.

terrio said...

You know, I might not mind listening to them. I need to check my library.

Sin said...

Nice.

Sin said...

They've got a really great reader for the audio. I have all three already. Yeah, I couldn't wait for the library to get their butts in gear. I'm still waiting for a new release that they still have on order.

Marnee Jo said...

If it weren't for Lissa, who posted the trailer on her blog, I wouldn't have known about them either.

They are good. And I just saw them at Walmart for like 8 bucks each, except Eclipse which is still in hardback and was a little more expensive.

Hellion said...

On your IPod?

Hellion said...

Amazon was selling the paperback for $6, but I thought if I bought them, why not in hardback for a couple bucks more.

Jordan said...

Sorry to interrupt the Twilight love fest ;), but just a note: if you guys need tech support in the future, I may be able to help (if you don't already have this in someone's capable hands, of course!). Just a little. I didn't see the site jacked earlier, though I did get a comment temporarily eaten by the spammonster here the other day.

terrio said...

Jordan - consider yourself adopted.

Marnee Jo said...

LOL!! Twilight love fest. :) Sorry about that... It's a new affliction around here.

Sin said...

Yeah, on my iPod, but I have them in other form as well. They equal out to about 25 CD's per book. If not more.

Santa said...

I love this site. It's like sittin' in Starbucks trying to write!

Okay so I started reading the responses then I saw the spoilers about Mama Mia and started to whiz through them and then I caught trailers and Twilight and my head started spinning agian! Is Twilight something my 11 year old should be reading/seeing?

And to answer you question, Hellion....there was a question wasn't there? It's Chapter Three and they're arguing about having or not having sex - let them have the 1/2 portion of the 2 1/2 sex scenes I've heard tell is the magic formula for romances. That should keep them good and worked up for a while.

Oh, and thanks for adding yet another excuse to my arsenal of excuses for not writing - the heat and humidity.

Is it hot and humid where A&E are or where you are?

And Sin, I hope that itchiness or rash goes away....or was that something out of Mama Mia?

Hellion said...

A&E live in Heaven, where it is always a balmy 72 degrees. I live on the Buttpimple of Hell, where it is hot and humid and full of "colorful" people who do things like make tank tops out of men's underwear.

terrio said...

OMG! I got that underwear tank top again yesterday. Never fails to crack me up. At least she cut out the really nasty area.

And technically, you've sent A&E to Vegas so it is hot where they are. Or have they gotten there yet? LOL! I'm going out into the 108 degree heat to go to Statistics class. If anyone is in hell, it's me!

Santa said...

PLEASE tell me you're joking about the tank top? I think I have to go bleach out my mind's eye!

Stats class is hell even without sweltering temps! Ice up, my dear. Ice up!

Renee Lynn Scott said...

Wow, I'm gone for a few days and I missed all the chaos. Did the ship get swiped by a rogue wave, fired upon by another ship, or something all together different?

I haven't seen Mamma Mia, but desperately want to. It looks like so much fun. Sounds like I've got to check out the Twilight.

Vegas, doesn't have too much humidity, do they? Either does Arizona, which makes the heat not so hot, at least compared to heat and humidity. We've been sitting in 106 degree heat indexes for the last few days. Sex is definitely out of the question, unless of course it's in a pool.

I'm not sleeping like a lizard, ok, maybe a little, but that's because I'm still peeling like a lizard, I'm currently on my 3rd maybe 4th layer of skin, so anything heat related is still out of the question.

Even though Adam isn't afraid of snakes could he get bit by a rattler and rushed to the ER? Maybe he could room with an Elvis impersonator who got attacked by a tiger. And of course, Eve could find a fabulous shop that sells six inch heels the color of apples along with a matching purse and sunglasses with cute little apples on them.

Well time to cover up in aloe again. Have a great day and good luck with chapter 3.

Renee

Hellion said...

Ooh, Renee, I love the fashion stuff...Eve can't resist cute little bags or shoes. (I hope you're feeling better though...I hate getting sun burned...and I'm wincing in sympathy!)

Sin said...

Santa, don't give me imaginary rashes. LOL. I've got a pinched nerve in my neck and I've now got the feeling back in my right arm but it burns like the dickens.

Renee Lynn Scott said...

Oh Sin, I feel for you. I hate pinched nerves, especially when they mess with the hands.

Renee

Renee Lynn Scott said...

Thanks Hellion,

I'm on the upside. It's been over a week and now I'm just dealing with the dry itchy skin, at least for the most part. I still have one area of my body that is still pretty burnt and will more than likely scar, so I guess no cleavage showing tops for me. ;)

Renee

terrio said...

Sin - I didn't know you had a pinched nerve. I got one of those a long time ago and went to a chiropractor. That's the best I've ever felt in my life!

Renee has a great blog about voice up on the Romance Roundtable today. Y'all need to check it out.

Elyssa said...

I forgot they're in Vegas!

OMG, more thoughts.

1. As part of their marriage counseling or 30 days to find the perfect spouse, they have to get ordained and perform a wedding ceremony, Vegas style; couple wants a Garden of Eden wedding.

2. Craps betting table. Lucy is there.

3. I think Eve should go "wild" and indulge her Vegas showgirl side.

4. Speed dating or blind dates. Aren't those forms of hell in itself?

Elyssa said...

Hm. Does Eve or Adam like Lucy, btw?

Renee Lynn Scott said...

Elyssa, one and three are priceless.

Thanks Terri, it means the world to me when you all stop by.

Renee

terrio said...

Ely - Adam hates Lucy. Eve flirts with him but I don't think she intends for anything to happen in that regard.

Renee - no problemo!

Santa said...

Sorry Sin! I knew I read 'burning' somewhere in this thread. See what happens when I speed read on the internet! Glad to hear you're feeling better!
