Deck Parrrty!!
We've got a lot to celebrate here on the Revenge today!
First of all, a huge, gigantic, Captain-Jack-style congratulations to our very own Bo'sun, Terri Osburn, for being a finalist in the Contemporary Single Title category of the Golden Heart contest!
In honor of Terri's amazing book, I've posted a pic of beautiful Ocracoke Island, the setting of the book. Though, what I'd really love to get my hands on is a pic of her hero, Joe. Yum. Instead, I'll have to settle for his island.
And second, big huzzah to our own Leslie Langtry, who released her latest book, THE ADULTERER'S UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO FAMILY VACATIONS. Here's Amazon too.
So, we're having a party. I think it should be a beach-themed, vacation-style party, since both of these books are about being by the ocean. Tell me, what would you bring to Ter's and Leslie's beach-themed celebration party? For my part, I'm bringing sunscreen, SPF 3000. Okay, I know it only works to 30. But, I'm a cautious girl. I'll just apply it enough to get to 3000.
Let's have some fun today!!

Woot! I got it up!!
Sorry, Comcast was messing with me last night. But I'm up and rolling today!
Congratulations girls!!
I'm rolling out my beach towel, putting on my straw hat, and loading up on the sunscreen. (Yes, I know, the sun's barely up, but I'm fair. Not just fair, I'm PALE, like those fish in the sea who never sea the sun.)
You know, Marn, I hear them say that the SPF only works up to 30 but I just can't help lathering on the 100. I burn so badly and easily it never hurts to be safe. It's not like the higher SPF's cost more, right?! So, I'll be borrowing your 3000!
Big, big Congrats, ladies!!!! A beach party sounds like tons of fun. I'll bring a volleyball net. The DH and our friends would play beach volleyball every summer in our younger years! Well... to be technical he played while I stayed in my chaise lounge watching and cheering (usually wrapped in every towel and blanket I could commandeer - do you know how cold it can be at the beach?!)
I was gonna bring margaritas, but I assume Chance is covering the beverages :)
Irish - Yeah, the whole SPF thing is so misleading, ya know? What I want is a tube that says, "Sweater in this bottle. Specially formulated for those with no pigment in their skin."
I haven't found that yet.
Yay volleyball!! Sounds like a ball. (Pun intended.) And I purposely left the bar to her too. Our resident bartender has something up her sleeve, I'm sure of it.
Lovely place to hold a celebration Marnee!
Yes, let's see what Chance brings for the bar...I'm sure it will be awesome.
That means I'm bringing everyone big floppy hats and star style sunglasses to help us in the sun and make us all look fabulous!
Oh - and I've brought a band along to play whatever music we want - they cover it all! I'm going to get them started with kick - Celebration by Cool & The Gang, Good Vibrations from the Beach Boys and finally We Are the Champions by Queen for our ladies to saunter in to the party to!
You are too sweet, Marn! I'm still floating ten feet off the ground and trying to wrap my head around this. I love the beach theme. And that's an awesome picture you found! I would share a picture of Joe if I had one. He's not all that into having his picture taken. But I'll see what I can do. ;)
SUPER CONGRATS to Leslie on this new book. I was fortunate to read it months ago and it is AWESOME!!! It's actually set at the "happiest place on Earth" so I'm not sure there's a beach nearby, but it's Florida. The beach theme will work!
Ah, the beach... thanks for the invite, Terri. So awesome to meet all these new people. (And a great book recommendation...I'll nip over to Amazon, shall I, and get that? Right after I have one of your rum punches... Because buying books is so much more fun after a drink.)
I digress. If there's a downside to meeting Terri's and my fellow GH finalists, it's that I can't buy their books yet. You just know they're all superb.
No beach scenes in my manuscript, but my hero (a judge) takes the heroine to his family's house at Eagle's Mere. That's in Pennsylvania, not far from where I live. It's a lake up in the mountains: gorgeous in summer, but so cold in winter the local fire company raises funds by having a toboggan run that goes down a hill and out onto the frozen lake.
Don't you love how we get to live (and vacation!) vicariously through our characters?
Congrats, again, Terri. Now, off to Amazon...
I love a party! I'm bringing cake and vodka. Or maybe it's vodka cake. Wait, cake-flavored vodka? Just prop me up in a chair and pour me a drink!
Thanks, Magdalen! And right back at you. That's another great part about this contest. We're in the same category but there's no thought of competition. For me, finaling feels like winning. We're all winners!
Marn is from PA and I used to live in Pittsburgh, but I've never heard of Eagle's Mere. I'll have to look that up! And you're really going to enjoy Leslie's book. Hysterical and irreverent, HOT and heartbreaking. The perfect read!
Well, first I'm going to celebrate that is probably the first time we've seen Terri's name associated with the Golden Heart--and her name was spelled correctly.
I am in some serious need of some Leslie Laughs. Must go download the book ASAP. :)
I am also in need of that "specially formulated for people without pigment in their skin"--it's sad really, but I totally need to layer up until it's at least 3000 worthy. Bullfrog is supposed to be really good for that. However, I don't like sitting in the direct sun; it gets too hot, so stick me under an umbrella, with the sunblock and a nice ocean breeze and I'll try not to swelter.
Welcome Magdalen! She's a GH finalist as well!
Yes she is! Her MS title is BLACKJACK & MOONLIGHT. Is that not an awesome title?!
I live at the beach but never actually sit ON the beach. LOL! Unless Hellie comes to visit. I'd be under the umbrella too. Don't like that heat pouring down on me. And I manage not to burn anymore, except on my chest. Every. Dang. Year.
That's only cause your chest is closer to the sun than all your other 2000 parts. *LOL*
Hello, Magdalen!! Welcome aboard and congratulations on your GH nomination!! Way wicked cool! (I'm so dating myself with that phrase.)
Har. Har.
Okay, that is funny. And my name is finally right on the RWA site. But I had to call the office yesterday to get it fixed. Then the woman on the phone called me Sharon. *sigh*
Congrats to Magdalen too! I love having these GH finalists here! Pass the sunscreen - I burn first too.
Oh, Sabrina! I love a floppy hat and big celebrity style sunglasses! And, it provides coverage in case I missed anything with the SPF 3000.
:)
Magdalen - Welcome and congratulations to you too!! I love the title and I loved PA. Not a lot of work where I lived so I started progressing across state to Philly and ended up in NJ, right outside the city. But PA, the mountainy part where I'm from, is one of my favorite places in the world.
Ter - Maybe beach wasn't quite right. Maybe I should have just said sunshiney, vacation oriented. :) Either way, I need my SPF 3000 and the rockstar hat Sabrina brought.
Hells - I'm an umbrella girl too.
I used to lifeguard on a lake, back in the day, and all the other guards would be up in their towers, oiled up and half naked. And I'd be there up, in a hat, long sleeves, and wrapped in a towel to cover, coated in the strongest SPF I could find. I stilled burned. Ugh.
I don't actually have a tan phase, you see. It's like White > FLourescent RED! > PINK > Pink > pink > white.
And Les, congrats to you! I love the title to this book. And "the happiest place on earth"... our visit there this month wasn't exactly full of happy. Well, at least not the whole time.
Dude, I need to get an avatar, don't I?
Marnee - me too! BUT, my work moved our company email to gmail, which means I can't log-in to blogger to comment unless I log-out of my work email. ARG! I don't want to link my personal and work accounts in google, so I'm playing a constant log-in/log-out game all day.
Yes. Yes you do.
Poor Scape. LOL! That would make me crazy. You don't have an internal email system???
I hate every pic of myself right now. So I haven't updated.
Maybe it's not the pic, but my face I'm not loving right now. I bloated with my youngest. I'm waiting for it to stop.... 2 years later.
Not any more Terri - they say they are saving 6 figures by dropping it and moving the entire company to Gmail.
It's made blogging a *itch. Usually I would keep my blog open and work on posts here and there throughout the day as I took calls, etc. Now, I can't log in to blogger if I'm in work email. My poor blog is suffering!
I work for an IT company and we're government contractor so we have to have secure email. They did mention recently that we had to delete old emails because the memory was costing us a fortune. I think I deleted 15K messages over 2 days.
So I'm an email hoarder. There are worse things...
Marn - If you've noticed, we don't actually use pictures of ourselves. :)
Yes, but you guys have creative ones. I have no clue what I'd use.
Lots of good stuff today!
Congrats to both Ter and Leslie!
And I'm bringing Ranger only because I wanna drool over his sexy hip bones while he's in his wet board shorts. SO hot. So we can all drool. Make it a team effort.
BTW Terri - Did my DM go through on Twitter? It said it did but after yesterday i thought I would check.
Let's get this party rocking! Terri what music do you want to play?
Ah, Ranger! I good bring, Sin. :)
And music! Fantastic idea. I think Ter enjoys some country. Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney?
Pass the 3000 sunscreen this way, please. Since I don't have to worry about bringing a hat and sunglasses, I think I can fit a container of fried chicken in with the one of bourbon brownies. And it's all calorie free.
Congrats to Leslie on the new release. May sales soar and accolades abound.
And more cheers for Ter. I've been telling all my family and friends the news just to be able to say out loud "My friend Terri is a Golden Heart finalist." And, Ter, I'm waiting on that email with attachment. Just sayin' . . .
Oooh! Group drooling! I love it! Can someone bring Ryan Reynolds, please?
I need an avatar too, but have NO IDEA how to do that.
I'll find you one, Marn.
Did someone say Ranger? In board shorts? *dies*
Right now I have THIS song in my head. Love it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv6dMFF_yts
But Keith and Kenny are always good. Saw Keith in concert last summer and he came up into the crowd. TWO SECTIONS FROM ME! I was so close!!!
Congrats Terri and Leslie! *throws coffee beans as confetti*
I guess we know what I'm bringing. And the Hotties are cooking up something special for lunch, when everyone is in need of something to counteract the celebration punch. LOL
It's amazing what a small world it is. I read the first chapter of Magdalen's BLACKJACK AND MOONLIGHT probably a year ago, after "meeting" her on Twitter. :) So congrats to you too, Magdalen. I'm thrilled for everyone's good news!
I'm working on it, Janga! I have two scene I must add to the end then I need to go through the typos Chance found for me. And see what I can fix from Marn's feedback. Then it's on to you! You're the master beta before it goes to agents. I'm counting on you! LOL!
Ooohh....brownies.
If Leslie gets Ryan Reynolds, I want Ryan Gosling!
Leslie - You have an avatar. LOL! It's the cover of one of your books. You don't see it?!
Donna - That is a small world! We're probably going to need that coffee for sure tomorrow morning. And we'll need the hotties to help clean up.
I know, but I think I'd like a rather piraty one. BTW, I posted a snipped of the next book on killerfictionwriters.blogspot today.
And for music, we MUST have Metallica's WHISKEY IN THE JAR-O!
I can't remember where I got my avatar. I'll see if I can find some.
Perfect song!
Ter, your avatar is out of my collection. I've probably got a few. Let me look.
Okay, uploaded some into the pirate group for perusing.
Congratualtions, Terri!!
Count me among those who burn then return to white. *sigh*
Off to look for Leslie's new book.
Di R
Thanks, Sin!
Hey there, Di! Are you going to be in Anaheim? I'd love to see you again. Maybe the pale skin is a writer thing? We do spend a lot of time indoors...
Gravatar -- that's how I got my avatar (which is from the banner of my blog, Promantica) to "travel" with me.
Marnee -- what mountains in Pennsylvania? I live in the "Endless Mountains" which is up near the NY border. I'm halfway between Scranton & Binghamton.
Hi, Donna! ::waves like a crazy person:: I'm back on the sauce myself; tea, in my case, as my DH is British and tea is the "sweet elixir of life" to the Brits. When he travels, I go caffeine-free out of sheer laziness, so when he comes back--? Peel me off the wall, ladies!
I hear you on the SPF. I love Marnee's progression of colors, but no one's mentioned my affliction: I get sun poisoning. It's a real thing, a bit like hives. And I have no way of predicting how much sun will cause me to break out. So I'm forever sentenced to what my mother called "prison pallor" (aka fishbelly-white).
I think pasty white skin is a sign of "nerdiness" and there is a good probability if you're a writer, you're a nerd.
My sister got sun poisoning once. That was baaaaaad. She couldn't even walk. I know I'd look better with a little "tint" (not orange!) but I'd rather know I'm avoiding skin cancer. Went to a dermatologist once who expected to see damage under her super-duper light. She looked totally shocked when it wasn't there. Ha!
My grandmother was born outside London so I grew up drinking tea. Never even tried coffee until a couple years ago. Meh. I can do without it.
Who you calling a nerd?! Oh wait, that's us. Never mind.
I'm a total tea drinker - I've bought so much from Republic of Tea I should own stock by now.
I've had sun poisoning twice. Us midwesterners shouldn't be allowed near the ocean.
I'm here! The party can start... oh, you've already started. Damned Pacific time... And I've brought...surprise...rum! And banana boats so we can ride the waves and look slightly nasty while we do so.
Marn, I got ya covered. Here be some super secret sunscreen... Yes, I know it feels slimy. Well, there is a reason for that...
I guarantee you won't sunburn! The Kraken donated it special for the party...
Leslie! I must download your book...last I checked, couldn't get it on my Nook, but I'll keep looking until it happens!
I got Jimmy Buffet coming later this afternoon... What's a beach without Jimmy!?
Who's in charge of the grill? We need CHEESEBURGERS!
I am so looking forward to Anaheim and watching Terri float around the convention.... ;-)
Mmmmm...CHEESEBURGERS!
Well it's about damn time. ;)
Why would we look nasty in banana boats? (I'd google but I'm lazy.)
You'll have to remember to take lots of pictures. You know how bad we are about that.
to me, banana boats are bananas, stuffed with marshmallows and choc chips, sealed back up and put over a fire for a few minutes. Why can't I stop thinking about food???
Oh, never been on a cruise? Big yellow bananas, inflated, that you ride like a horse on a wave... ;-)
Just downloaded Leslie's newest! Something to read while heading to the Jeff Dunham concert this afternoon! Whoohoo!
Oh. Ooooohhhhh.....nasty.
Leslie - Is it lunch time yet?
Maureen - I don't recommend reading while driving...
Terri - it's ALWAYS lunchtime.
Magdalen - I grew up about 2 hours east of Pittsburgh. So more south than you. But it's beautiful.
I have never had sun poisoning, thank you baby Jesus. But I'll not say that I'll never get it. Still got a lot of living to do. :)
Chance -there you are lovie! I was wondering when the beverages would arrive. LOL!! Thank the Kraken for the sunscreen. I knew he'd have me covered. :)
And I love some bananas in the fire. And cheeseburgers. And food.
No worries, Leslie. DH drives, I read!
I've actually had sun rash on fingers from driving in the southwest. Only place it ever happened to me...thinner ozone layer?
Time for me to break my fast...
WOOT! Congratulations Terri on the final
And way to go Leslie on the release!
Big day on the ship :)
Thanks, JK! The ship is floating above the water today. :)
Hi JK! Good to see you!
SUPER CONGRATS to Bo'sun for her GH nomination! Aunty is sooo proud of you!
Also CONGRATS to Leslie on her new release. That's quite a title, and LOVE the cover. ;-)
I see this party is very well stocked with food, drinks, sunscreen and hunks (Aunty sidles over to apply sunscreen to the Hotties). How bout a nice chocolate fountain? I'll set it up far enough away from the action so that sand doesn't get in the chocolate. :-P
CONGRATS AGAIN, Ladies!
AC
Hey JK! Thanks for stopping by! *waves*
Ah, good. Everyone has brought something, so I can, in my usual fashion, slink in, and help myself to the food. *nom, nom, nom, nom, nom, nom*
Congrats, Leslie on the new release, and of course, congrats to Terri on finaling in the Golden Hearts! Ya'll rock!!!
Thanks, AC! Looking forward to see you in Anaheim. And a possible assist in keeping me upright. LOL!
Seriously get Leslie's book. It's so good.
Heya, Pat! Thanks again. Have at the food. That's the fun of a virtual party. There's always enough!
And calorie free!
That too!
Yup, virtual calories do not count! Hi, Auntie! And JK! We're having a contest...who can out drink Jack! The winner gets a super-dooper ride on the Kraken slide!
Does this mean Maureen gets virtual chocolate?
Wahooooo! Partay on the foredeck. I do like a good bit of foredeck before I hit the mainsail. Terri, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Couldn't happen to a nicer person. I'll be cheering for you at a distance on the awards night. HUZZAH!!!!
I don't know. She might be off that too, Pat. LOL!
Thanks, Anna! But I'm going to miss seeing your shining face!
Woohoo!! What a great week for the pirates!!
Happy book release, Leslie! You had me with the title alone. It looks like my Kindle will have to make room for another book!
Giant, huge, crazy congratulations, Terri! Seriously, I can't say that enough. I am so thrilled for you! I can't wait to toast to you in Anaheim!
That's toast to US! Congrats to you too!! (Mary finaled in the YA category.)
Yay, Terri! Congratulations. I'm so pleased for you, and I hope this leads to great things.
Leslie, congrats on your new release! It sounds fabulous.
Virtual chocolate doesn't count! YES! I'm doing so good with that fast... I just have to not break it at RT with a chocolate buffet!
Hey! Anne is hear! (Hide the hotties!)
Mary, we're gonna have the rockinest table at the ceremony. I'm planning on bringing an air horn. (What!? Why not...? Oh...no, I don't want to be kicked out... Damn.)
Magdalen, congrats to you, too! I hope you and Terri have a great time in Anaheim and enjoy the princess treatment. While only one person can win each category, more than one person can sell. Good luck to you both!
The Bandits are storming the decks! (That's a good thing, just to be clear.)
Thanks, Nancy. This doesn't even feel like a contest. It really feels like we all already won. This is a great bunch. I'm really enjoying getting to know the finalists.
Will you be in Anaheim?
I'm so glad I stayed up all night stuffing those twinkies.
(Get her mind outta the gutter!)
I had to go to three grocery stores to find the mini chocolate chips and ended up devising a way to shove them into the twinkie without getting all sticky...
(What did I say about the gutter? Out. Of. It. Now.)
Anyway, they are stuffed, soaked in rum and ready to light up! Stand back if you want to keep your eyebrows!
Jus wanted to swing by and congratulate Terri on her GH Final - Way to go, girl!
And Leslie - your book looks too good to miss! I was laughing at the title alone, can't wait to read between the covers...(or would that be under the covers).
As to a beach party - I'm bringing binoculars - not to scan for boats on the horizon but to zoom in on some manly pecs...and other things.
Congrats Ladies!
Thanks, Donna. Hope you have a towel for those binoculars. They're going to get steamed up a lot. ;)
Sadly my friends, it's that time of day where I will spend the next 3 hours driving 2 kids to 5 things. I really don't want to leave the party, but Wednesdays are a bitch.
I had a great time! Thank you!
WOOOHOOOOOOOOOO, had to come over from the Romance Bandits and Woohoo for Terri O! WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!
Now, what's a good drink for a GH celebration...
We got overrun by Banditas while I was away. LOL!! *waves at Jeanne, Anna, Aunty, Nancy, and Donna* Thanks for stopping by ladies!!
Congrats to Mary too! Such an exciting year! :)
Bye, Leslie! Here, take a twinkie with you!
What do you mean, it will get all over the upholstery!?
Hurumph...mine never last that long...
Look up towards the horizon.
A black dot in the sky is getting nearer.
A roaring sound is splitting the air.
There is a loud explosion and a parachute descends through a cloud of swirling smoke.
Hi Folks, its me. Sorry about the soot ... Bloody Black hole was unstable!
Only way I could get here at such short notice.
My invite said the party was on Friday ..... grrrrr!
OK so where is the stage. I can't toast a new writing goddess without a platform.
Drat. My prepared speech has incinerated in transit.
Oh well, I can take a hint. LOL
Congratulations Terri and Leslie.
I just know that this is the start of something special. *smile*
That's why my Kiddo does very little extra-curricular activities. Though she tried out for softball and didn't make the team. I felt so bad.
Try not to burn too much gas.
Jeanne!! Y'all, Jeanne is the one who called me and I'm sure nothing coherent came from my end of the line. I'm just very proud of myself that I didn't curse in her ear.
I didn't curse, did I? *freaks* Whatever the drink is, there should be Gold dust in there somewhere. :)
A drink to celebrate the Golden Heart... I think I have some Cuervo Gold somewhere around here...
Leslie, sorry, I was so dazzled by our Miss Terrio, I missed your news. Congratulations on the new book! May you sell a million!
Ho-boy. She's breaking out the tequila.
Q - Surely you can come up with a toast off the top of your head. And Marn demanding she get to throw the party. It's her fault if the invitation was screwy. *points at Gunner*
Thanks for coming either way. Sounds like you were deep into something there. ;)
I thought we were having a party on Friday too. Because we can. Because we're PIRATES. *LOL*
Heehee. No, Terri you didn't curse. Grins. It was SO FUN to be able to call you!!! :> Oooh, and a drink with gold dust? I'm so there!
Ooooh, Cuervo!!
Q - Surely you can come up with a toast off the top of your head.
OK I'm persuaded. LOL
Raise your glasses pirates, if you are still able.
Here's to a spirate so pure and so able
She writes like an angel with a pen of pure gold.
Her admirers extend across continents and oceans
Her aura is huge and glows bright on the web
Her mission in life is to capture an audience
And by God, she has surely captured me!
Terri, may your Golden Heart success launch you up with the immortals!
Mere mortals down here will be watching in awe.
Pirates please drink to Terri, on her way to the stars.
Bottoms up and down the hatch!
That is awesome!! I knew you could do it. LOL! Now I feel all special. Thank you for that. I need to print it off and hang that one over my desk.
(And thank goodness that says "aura is huge". I read that as a different "a" word.)
Wooohooo! Bottom's UP!
I'm relieved that Smashwords had a copy of The Adulterer's Unofficial Guide to Family Vacations! I have downloaded my copy! Whoot!
I have a serious blog for Friday. No, really!
Meanwhile, pink grapefruit margaritas with Cuervo Gold! Here's to Terri!!!
Leslie, congratulations upon the release of your latest book! I absolutely LOVE the title of it!
And Terri … a “Great Big Holy Cow But Gosh I’m Not Surprised That You finaled Congratulations” to you!
Did I tell you that I'm not surprised?
Congratulations! :)
Thank you, Julie. I was surprised enough for the both of us. LOL!
I couldn't resist - 100 comments! WOW, you guys really know how to throw a bash! Congrats again, ladies.
Sorry I'm late to the party (again), but wanted to pop in and join in the cheers for Terri!! Raising a large glass of Pimms in your honour!!
Congrats again, Terri! Still doing the happy dance for you! (might be all those margaritas I imbibed in celebration) ;-)
