In Honor of Hellie's Birthday!

Happy Birthday Cap'n!  And a fine and dewy 29 ye look!  In honor of this auspicious occaision, I thought I'd unveil the cover for the Paris Bombay novella I'm working on, just for me mates!

TaDA!

Here he is, your favorite Beta Male!  Paris Bombay!  Paris (as a couple of you know very well) is different from the other Bombays.  He's a passionate brunette, fond of poetry, cocktails consumed by the Rat Pack and is sensitive when it comes to women.  When I first started writing him, I pictured Adrian Brody from King Kong.  Now I see a little Ryan Reynolds in him too (Can I just ask, what the hell was ScarJo thinking???  Sean Penn???  Really???).

Anyway, Paris' love interest is most certainly a brunette also.  (No fighting, you two)  The only thing I don't have for her is her name.  You guys know how I love playing with names;  Gin Bombay, Diego Jones, Leonie Doubtfire, etc.  And yet somehow all those Kracken drinks have killed off the cells in my brain that name characters.

Help me out here!  I need a good name to go up against Paris Bombay.  Your  mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with something so devastatingly brilliant that I have to thank you in the acknowledgements.  Hit me with your best shot, Ladies!

Hmmmm! Must be something to balance out the wondrous name of Paris...like Barstow. (Great name for a dog but I guess that wouldn't work for a femme fatale...)

How 'bout Salinas... Salinas Salizar. From Castroville.

I mean we have to balance this suave poetry Rat Packer...

Yes, I've been drinkin' me own brew. Ya don't know what it took ta wrestle that rum cask away from Hellion and restore the rum settin'... and I had ta taste if fer a few tankards ta get the butterbeer taste outta the rum...

What a lovely cover you have there, Leslie. I haven't had the chance yet to read your books, so I'm not familiar with the characters. I'm ransacking my brain for a character name today too, so I'll see if I can't come up with TWO names.

I just started my first cup of coffee, so it might be a little bit. (I can barely remember my own name at this stage!)

I know what you mean, Donna. Sometimes I forget I have kids when I wake up. I just scream at them, "Who are you???"

You have done wonders with these covers. I love it! And I love the Rat Pack, another reason Paris and I are perfect. Okay, I must think of the perfect name. I've had my English muffin (no coffee for me) so let me see if that's enough fuel to get the brain going.

Okay.... I'm only halfway through my coffee too but here goes.

Charlene (Charlie) Crabtree. I like the alliteration.
Blueberry Mitchell. I knew a girl named Blueberry once and I thought it was an awesome "my parents were hippies" kind of name. She went by Blueberry too.
Hetta London. I don't know why.

Love that cover!

Can you share a few details about her personality? I always find that I want to either pick a name that goes totally with or totally against personality type. :)

Paris Bombay makes me think of ... well Paris & libations. So, playing off that theme I propose the name...

Cairo Tanqueray

Sounds like a brunette. An exotic, dangerous, intoxicating one at that!

Leslie Langtry said...

I don't know about revealing too much about her personality yet. She's definitely a rulebreaker.

Tangueray would be in direct competition with Bombay! Very funny!

How about a Rat Pack era famous name, like Marilyn Monroe, that she absolutely HATES but Paris is fascinated by. Or you could name her Frances, playing off of Paris, France. Maybe Frances Mayweather. Whatever you choose I'm sure we'll love her!

Bosun said...

I keep thinking of the name April. Because people always say there's nothing more beautiful than April in Paris. I'm weird.

A rule breaker. Hmmmmm.....

I like flower names. What about Wisteria? Then, you know, she could go by Teri.

Just an idea...

Happy Birthday Captain!

Ref: names
How about 'Coco'. Just Coco cuz she's mysterious that way. He doesn't even know her last name.

Leslie Langtry said...

You guys are doing far better than I am on a "good" day (read - triple chocolate martinis and pizza)

Julie said...

Okay … more direct competition with Bombay? How about *giggle*

Crystal Palace
or
Crystal Palazzo (Italian)
Crystal Jauregia (Basque)
Kristall Palee (Estonian)
Cristal Palacio (Spanish)
Crystal Palácio (Portuguese)
Crystal Палаца (Belarusian)
Crystal Palazz (Maltese )
Crystal Pálás (Irish)
Cristal Palat (Romanian)
And last, but not least
Kristal Saray (Turkish)

Julie said...

I like the Turkish btw.

Of course you could name her something plain like Jane. Jane Beefeater.
LOL

That is one hot cover. I'm all kinds of excited about this story. Do you have to name her? I'm pretty sure all of us are going to replace her name with ours anyway, so we can pretend we ended up with Paris. *LOL*

Except for me, of course, because I fought hard for Coney.

Can I vote for Frances, as listed above, because I think that would drive Terri nuts. *LOL*

Bosun said...

I thought about voting that one down immediately but was trying to be nice. To the commenter.

Donna said...

Well, you've come to the right place if you want alcohol-themed names. LOL

Since I like coffee, I'm going to suggest her name be Kahlua. Kahlua Coffey. LOL

Leslie Langtry said...

Why would Frances drive Terri nuts? Do tell!

Bosun said...

Though we don't mention it often, Frances is our dear Captain's real name. Which would make *her* Paris' heroine.

You see my problem.

Leslie Langtry said...

You know what? I knew that. I just didn't think of that. It's like I started drinking already.

Bosun said...

Well, it is Friday. Drinking this early makes perfect sense.

Julie said...

Yes do call her Frances. france for short. Which sets off all kinds of interesting sexual tension and physiological undercurrents since Paris is in France and … umm … yah … I'll be quiet now.

Happy Birthday, Frances!

Well it has to be a name to associate with danger guns and explosives and somehow contrast with Paris or Bombay. That's not asking a lot!

How about Bomber Vice, known to his pals as Anaconda.
The Anaconda Vice is a lethal wrestling hold, suggesting that our friend should not be tangled with.
Bomber suggests an ability with explosives which might be handy for an assassin.

Has Helli been born again, having another birthday?
*blows a hot kiss across the pond* for yesterday's birthday.

No one liked Salinas Salizar?

Now, the alcohol theme... How about Brandywine, Brandy for short.

(I always loved the song!)

...The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl
What a good wife you would be
Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor
From the sea...

(earworm invasion!)

Bosun said...

Q - Hellie's birthday is today, but we celebrated yesterday because she's spending today mostly off ship. :)

Chance - Earworm didn't take. I've never heard of that song.

2nd Chance said...

You've never heard that song? Oh, man. I am so old!

Well, with luck it will infect someone!

SEASONED Chance!

Here Terri

And a port on a Western Bay? Hmm ... bet it has At least one Pirate there!

Hellion said...

I know the song, Chance. There was a girl we used to know named Brandy and we'd sing the song for her all the time. *LOL*

Leslie Langtry said...

Okay, I was having a BLT. What did I miss?

2nd Chance said...

Thanks, Julie! Yeah, seasoned! I'm seasoned! I know that...

A BLT...yummy!

Bosun said...

I had to stop listening halfway through, my clothes were changing to polyester.

2nd Chance said...

LOL! It wasn't that bad! ;-)

I fell in love with the lyrics...

Leslie Langtry said...

This BLT was on homemade toasted wheat and as big as my head. With a mountain of mayo - it was glorious.

Donna said...

I love BLTs. I never think to have them in the winter though. Mmm. Now I need one.

Leslie Langtry said...

yes, yes you do.

Leslie Langtry said...

CAKE! Yes! Cake's my favorite!

Bosun said...

Leslie, the BLT pusher.

Since this is Hellie's birthday, shouldn't we be having cake? Chocolate cake with rich chocolate frosting. Mmmmmmmmmmm.......

I need to stop thinking about shit I can't have.

Love the Cover! Can't wait to read it.

How about Shirley Temple for her name. It goes with the alcohol themed names. (Shirley Temple Cocktail) She could be short with curly hair and be a little rebel with a heart of gold..
