The Fire Lord's Lover

Pirates, allow me to introduce Kathryne Kennedy, author of THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER.  She is as gracious as her hero Dominic is yummy, so I was thrilled when she agreed to be my very first interview!

First off, let me say how captivated I was by this book, and I rarely read fantasy.  But Kathryne cleverly combined fantasy elements (elven lords) with historical ones (Georgian England era), and I found this book irresistible.

DRD:  Kathryne, welcome aboard.  The first thing I'd like to ask is did you have trouble convincing editors this fantasy/romance combo was a good idea?  Or did they jump right on board with it?

KK:  Sourcebooks Publishing jumped right on board…but I believe it was because the fabulous Dominique Raccah & Deb Werksman had read the book, DOUBLE ENCHANTMENT, from my previous historical fantasy romance series, The Relics of Merlin, so they had faith in me. My previous series combined Victorian fantasy, with shape-shifters as my heroes, and was a bit more light-hearted than my new Elven Lords series. I think at that time, ENCHANTING THE LADY was a bit of a new twist from what was currently selling, but my editor at Dorchester Publishing, Leah Hultenschmidt, is known for publishing ‘out of the box’ romances, so she took a leap of faith as well.

DRD:  *scribbling furiously*  Okay, looks like I've got another crate full of books to add to my hammock. . .I was tickled with the part about Georgians being so enthralled with the elven hair that they used wigs in an attempt to duplicate it.  How did this great idea present itself to you?

KK:  Research. I was delving into a new historical time period, so I studied like I was back in college, until I had a good feel for the era, and enough historical details to ground my reader in the time period. I always have an idea of the book I’m going to write, and research always adds many more elements to it. My elven lords had white hair, and when I read about the white wigs favored by the ‘cits’ and aristocracy, it fell naturally into place that the reason they wore the white wigs was to duplicate the elven hair. So my wigs have less curl than actual Georgian wigs, and the lords add crushed stone to simulate the silver sparkle within the elven lords’ hair.

DRD:  I'm a huge fan of heroes with long hair, so you had me at "battle braids".  Do you write your characters with someone (i.e., movie stars) in mind?

KK:  I don’t often do that, as the characters always come from my imagination. However, in this instance, I did take a great deal of inspiration from Orlando Bloom as Legolas in Lord of the Rings—I fell crazy in love with that character, and knew I would like to one day write a series revolving around the fae. He inspired the elven lords, and I developed my characters from there.

DRD:  What do you like to read for relaxation?  For inspiration?

KK:  I’m always inspired by other writers, by their breadth of imagination and the worlds they create, whether it’s fantasy or romance. I always wonder how on earth they create their stories, as they always surprise me. It came as a bit of a shock the first time I was asked how I manage to come up with my own. That’s the wonderful thing about writing. No two minds think alike, no two voices are the same, and every author adds something new to literature.

DRD:  What's your favorite writing advice?  Is it easy or hard for you to follow it?

KK:  The advice I give most commonly is to trust yourself. To stick with your vision and your style of writing, and to always go with your gut. It’s easier for me to follow that now than it was several books ago.

DRD:  That is great advice, and I'm glad to hear it gets easier with experience.  You did a lot of blog visits for this book.  How do you measure the success of your blog tours?  Do you see new followers and/or readers as a result?

KK:  I guess I measure the success by the new people I meet on my tour, and my current readers that follow them. I always love meeting new readers and introducing them to my worlds, and I love hearing from those that are already familiar with my work. THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER did hit a bestseller list for ebook sales during my tour, so I believe that may qualify as a measure of success to publishers.

DRD:  Congrats on the bestseller list!  One last question from me.  I'm sure the other pirates will want a turn.  What's your favorite part of writing?  Your least favorite?

KK:  My favorite part is falling in love with new characters. My least favorite part is saying goodbye to them. But then I start a new book, and the process begins anew, thank goodness.

Thanks, Kathryne, for joining us.  I hope you can stay for a little bit to hoist a tankard of rum with us.  2nd Chance usually creates a special drink for our guests, and I have a feeling THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER will prove very inspirational.

Also, to celebrate my very first interview, I have a copy of THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER that I purchased to give away to the person who is nicest to me—er, I mean, to one lucky (random) commenter today.

I do like a challenge...white and red...what will make a drink with white threads falling through a red curtain?

I will figure out a suitable drink to celebrate this enticing sounding book!

Kathryne, welcome to the Revenge! Your book sounds quite interesting. I do love it when historical details like the white wigs can be blended with fantasy elements. Legolas was wonderful, as was Haldir.

And I so know what you mean about saying goodbye to a character/world at the end of a book. I get hysterical...

Donna said...

Chance, I thought there ought to be some fire involved in the drink creation. LOL Even if it is a bit dangerous to have fire aboard a ship!

Clarissa Southwick said...

What a fascinating book, Kathryne! Everyone is talking about it.

Congratulations on hitting the bestseller list. I would really like to be entered in the drawing.

Donna said...

Clarissa, thanks for stopping by! I really enjoyed this book, so I am doing my best to keep it on the bestseller lists. LOL

*drops Clarissa's name in the drawing*

Sin said...

Welcome aboard Kathryne!

I will have to check this out. I love elven fantasy. (Not to mention yummy heroes!) Have you always been interested in fantasy writing or is it something you find yourself inspired to write?

Congrats on the bestsellers list! I'm sure it's well deserved!

Scorpio M. said...

I am not a big fantasy reader either but I found Kathryn's book premise to be so utterly enchanting that I read a teaser chapter & got hooked. It is so good! I think I have found a new author to add to my faves list. =)

Sin said...

Ooooh hot villians! I'm hooked.

Donna said...

Hot villains? Where did you see that? LOL

Donna said...

Scorpio, I'm the same about fantasy -- but I kept looking at the cover, and thinking how beautiful it was (even if it took me FOREVER to see those pointed ears! LOL)

I think what I liked about this is the fantasy aspects seem so NATURAL, and fit in with the story so easily.

Donna said...

Sin, Kathryne said she will stop by, but I don't know her schedule. I asked her on such short notice, it was well, more like "miniature notice". LOL (And I didn't warn her away from you, so we should be good. LOL)

Liz Lipperman said...

Donna and Kathryne, thanks for the great interview. I'm not a fan of fantasy, either, but I do have two of Kathryne's books on my TBR pile and fully intend to add the third.

Now to find some time to read!

Scorpio M. said...

Oh my, I just noticed the ears now. How adorable! LOL.

Sin said...

I went to her website and read about the books. Hot villains. *blink* I'm always up for a little mischievousness.

Evil Twin said...

Dear DRD,

I am most agreeable to company. Charm does that to people.

Sincerely,

Evil Twin

PS. I even picked up after myself last night because you said we were going to have a guest with hot men.

Bosun said...

Ha! I noticed the pointed ears right away, as soon as I realized he looks like Legolas. LOL!

Okay, I don't do fantasy, but I watched the LOTR movies and loved the scope and all the little stories that made up the giant story. I really enjoy the Georgian period and with a premise like this - an assassin raised in a convent! - how could a reader resist?!

My question would be, how do you know when you've done enough research? Where do you draw the line as I'm guessing this is a time period you could spend years researching?

Sin said...

Oooh, good question Bo'Sun.

Sin said...

And I didn't notice the ears. I like his jaw line and the set of his lips. He looks like the type who might be a little rough around the edges and dark. I'll meet him around back of a tavern at night to get to know him better.

Donna said...

Sin, is it any wonder we worry about you? LOL Back of a tavern indeed.

Donna said...

Bo'sun, I haven't watched the LOTR movies (they're too loooooooong! LOL), but if you liked those, I'm sure you'd like this book. :)

And that's a good point about getting lost in the research -- it's easy to do, and you can count it as "writing" stuff. LOL The HOA strikes again!

Hellion said...

Oooh, ooh, pick me, pick me!

I thought the hero on the cover above looked a lot like Legolas. And I think the wig detail is a very nice touch! *LOL*

What are you working on now?

Sin said...

OMG, while I've not watched any of the POTC or HP movies, LOTR is another story. How can you NOT have watched them?

Donna said...

Hellion, I think Kathryne is on West Coast time, so I'll answer for her until she arrives. :) I believe she's working on another book in the series, involving a character that has a cameo in this one.

Unless I'm wrong. LOL

*drops Hellie's name in the punchbowl*

Oops. Let me try that again. LOL

Donna said...

Sin, I'm not really into fantasy, and it felt like the LOTR cycle would require too much of a commitment. (As my heroine says, I've had colds last longer than my relationships. LOL)

Sin said...

LMFAO hilarious. LOL

Kiki would say, "Better to leave while they are sleeping than to fuss with the whining when they wake up."

Donna said...

I could see you, I mean KIKI, saying that. LOL (We should get that embroidered on a pillow. For the guest suites. LOL)

Sin said...

LOL. My saying is more like "We'll meet at your place. Not mine."

Marnee Jo said...

Welcome aboard Kathryne! :)

These elves sound like the elves in the Lord of the Rings movies and I loved Orlando Bloom in those movies. (So sexy.) And Lady Cassandra, the virgin assassin, sounds like an amazing character. I need to pick this one up!

Donna said...

You guys are gonna make me watch the LOTR movies now, aren't you? LOL

*runs off to IMDB to see how many hours I need to schedule for this project*

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Hello ladies! I'm thrilled to be here today to meet all of you! Thank you for the warm welcome!

Hi 2nd Chance! Thank you! Maybe a tankard of ale? ;}

Hi Donna! Thank you for the great interview questions! And fiery ale sounds just perfect!

Hi Clarissa Southwick! That's great to here! Thank you so much for your interest.

Hi Sin! I love fantasy, and my brain always twists the stories in my head toward magic. I also love historical romance, so they both combined for TFLL. Thanks for the great question!

I just love ya, Scorpio M! :}

Hi Liz Lipperman! Me too! ;}

So sweet of you so check out my website, Sin! And yes, Scorpio, gotta love the pointed ears!

You're so right, Bo'sun! I could spend years researching the time period...but I remind myself that I'm not a historian. I try to focus on what I need to ground my reader into the time period, which involves mostly daily life, clothing, etc. I only use what works with the book, cause it's tempting to add in some fascinating research I discovered along the way.

Hi Evil Twin! Just me here. The hot men are between the covers of my book. ;}

Bosun said...

Donna - I was dating a guy when those came out who was huge into them. That's how I ended up watching them, but they really were good. The second one...I could have skipped. But the first and last are worth the time.

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Ooh, be careful, Sin. You're playing with fire. Literally, lol. But, you know, the scorch marks might be worth it.

Hi Hellion! I'm finishing up the edits for book two in the series, The Lady of The Storm, and I think you'll know whose story it is once you read TFLL. And Donna, you're absolutely right! Anyhoo, my hero is a half-breed with a cursed sword, and I take full responsibility for what happens to him.

Hi Marnee Jo! Yes, I fell in love with Legolas, and knew I'd have to write a series about the fae. I hope you enjoy my version of the elven. Oh, and Lady Cassandra has her own magical gift of dance. I had fun creating her gift. :}

Donna said...

Kathryne, thanks for indulging us today! We're so glad to have you.

So how many books do you have planned for this series? I know there were several kingdoms, so to speak, in this book, so I assume each one could have its own book.

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Hi Donna! You gals are a lot of fun! So happy to meet you all!

I'm contracted to write three books in the series, so I'm wrapping up the main plot arc in book three, although there will be opportunity for prequels.:}

Bosun said...

This is going to be a banner year for me in reading, I can tell now. First, I read my first vampire and I see my first Elvin book is going to be next. This book sounds like crazy fun.

Sin is going to burn off those poison dart eyelashes if she's not careful.

Donna said...

Kathryne, "fun", "crazy". "Tomato", "tomahto". LOL Just be glad the bartender isn't here yet!

Oh, and Sin and Evil Twin are the same person. I'm not sure she's ever actually signed in as Evil Twin before though. She's the official ninja assassin around here. LOL (We try to keep her busy. Otherwise. . .)

Bo'sun -- I didn't kow about the poison dart eyelashes. She must have made a recent trip to "Assassins 'R Us" that I didn't know about!

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Ah, Bo'sun, it is kinda crazy hot. ;}

Two personas! Well Evil/Sin will adore Lady Cass! BFF's for sure, lol!

And just because I can't resist...ARGH! What a great group of bloggers!

Donna said...

The heroine in TFFL also has this "mood ring" of sorts, that has a rose on it, and the hero can tell how she's feeling based on if the rose is blooming or not.

It makes me wish I had something like that. I might have to have a snake on it or something. LOL People would know to tread softly if it was hissing or rattling its tail!

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Yeah, he kinda cheated with that elven ring. But sometimes men need a little help figuring us women out. :}

Bosun said...

Could you imagine how much easier our lives would be if our guys had a ring giving off that kind of info? Or if we had a neon sign across our foreheads that warned them off. LOL!

Okay, the drink has to have fire - easy enough with rum as an ingredient - and now there must be a rose in the bottom that blooms when the rum is at the perfect level.

Donna said...

It WOULD make life easier if we helped them figure us out. But it would take all the sport out of it! LOL

Oooh, Bo'sun -- me likey! That is truly inspired.

Bosun said...

How about The Fire Lord's Lava Lamp? Too long for a drink name?

I think she just gave us a hint Lady Cass has a double identity. This gets better by the minute.

Donna said...

Maybe I'll have a ring that says, "Can you hear me now?" LOL

It could come in handy on those days when the males have selective hearing loss. :)

Kathryne Kennedy said...

OMGosh! I love the Fire Lord's Lava Lamp! Tuly inspired! You'll have to give me all the ingredients, Bo'sun, so I can post the recipe on my website!

Oh, and a forehead sign would be terrific. I have to tell my DH I've got PMS, and he's wise enough after all these years to give me a wide berth. A sign would be even better. ;}

Kathryne Kennedy said...

You know, one that flashes with warning lights, lol.

Donna said...

Well maybe the forehead isn't the right spot. LOL Although then they'd get distracted and. . .dang. This whole "sign" thing is trickier than it sounds!

Sin said...

And DRD, no. Evil Twin has not signed in before because I take it upon myself to sign in first so ET doesn't have the opportunity to hijack anything.

Sin said...

Well the forehead would be better than chest level. You could be guaranteed NO ONE would be warned off because they wouldn't read it.

I like Lady Cass. She most definitely could be my BFF. As long as she shared the fair haired fire lord with me.

Sin said...

It makes me wish I had something like that. I might have to have a snake on it or something. LOL People would know to tread softly if it was hissing or rattling its tail!

I think all pirates should be outfitted with a limited edition skull and crossbones ring. Then people could just accidentally turn into bone dust by how the ring judges moods... Oops, I annihilated another one. Sweep this off the deck before anyone notices... *whistling*

2nd Chance said...

Let's call it the Lava Lamp fer short. But give me a few hours ta research the right ingredients. I'm thinking...

And it's hard, so shut up! I ain't been up long! ;-)

DRD, ya gots ta watch the movie, though it sometimes be sad. I think I seen them all, oh...twenty times or so. Nothin' on me sis, Last Chance...

Kathyrn, since Legolas inspired the series, how hard was it ta not borrow anything direct from Tolkein? (We borrows a lot on the ship, we are pirates, afterall...)

Hellion said...

Could you imagine how much easier our lives would be if our guys had a ring giving off that kind of info?

Yes, but the thing is: would they listen? You know how guys are. Sometimes they like to poke the bear on purpose so having that knowledge might not prevent an attack.

Hellion said...

Dang, all this talk of magic rings makes me want to buy one too. (I even like the snake one, and we know how I feel about snakes!) I'm trying not to spend money, people! Except for this book of course, since I know Donna is going to be cruel and not give me a copy.

Sin said...

Yes, but we could sweet talk the DRD into sending me one (Or scare her, either works for me) and you can borrow it from me.

Sin said...

I like how you say borrows Chance.. LOL

Donna said...

Moi? Cruel? You must be thinking of Evil Twin Sin (there's a drink for that too, right? LOL)

And if I had a magic power, right now it would be the ability to make kick-ass coffee WITHOUT using coffee grinds. Grrr. No matter how many years I've been doing this, I always make a mess cleaning it up. (I know. Irony deluxe.)

And don't suggest those pod coffee thingies. That's "make do". I want "magic" -- like it makes itself as soon as it hears me waking up! LOL

Sin said...

And it’s hard, so shut up! I ain’t been up long!

I just have to say..

That's what she said.

2nd Chance said...

Hey, honey...read the ring... I am not in the mood!

So many conversations cut short!

Especially with Sin's ring, we'd be dusting the ship constantly!

Donna said...

Yes, but we could sweet talk the DRD into sending me one (Or scare her, either works for me) and you can borrow it from me.

Hellooooo. I can SEEEEEE that!

2nd Chance said...

Well, I know how some folks get upset when I say steals.

We also liberate.

It's all in the spin!

Sin said...

I want to know more about this series. What's up next in your Elven Lord series, Kathryne? Is it top secret?

2nd Chance said...

Sin, it would fit that's what he said more...

I'm stretching, I know. Man, when with conference hang over dissipate?

Sin said...

*waving hand* Pffft! You're the one who said magic. You get magic coffee. I get magic comments. Even like Chance said, "It's all in the spin."

Sin said...

I have a work conference hangover. Can't wait for the weekend. I need a nap. Or a Silent as Sin. Can you make me one up, Chanceroo? I'll get one of the poisonous dart eyelashes as a stirrer.

Hellion said...

Evil Twin Sin: abstinthe with a dash of arsenic and set on fire. You bet that's a drink. Comes with a dagger in case the poison is taking too long to kill you.

2nd Chance said...

I really should have emphasized the he on that.

Coffee...time to crawl off to Starbucks...

Sin said...

Make sure they put some caffeine in your SB's Chanceroo. I had some this morning and it was like drinking peppermint water. No caffeine AT ALL. *big sigh*

Sin said...

Evil Twin Sin: absinthe with a dash of arsenic and set on fire. You bet that’s a drink. Comes with a dagger in case the poison is taking too long to kill you.

Don't tempt me into making this a real deal.

Donna said...

Chance just got here and now she's leaving? LOL I'll take a grande Americano if you're doing a Starbie's run.

Now THAT would be magic, if she could cross over 3 timezones AND the internet to get that to me! LOL

Bosun said...

I had my first SB coffee at the Orlando airport last week. A Vanilla Latte I thought would be easy on the coffee taste. Might have been had I a) stirred the thing and b) added sweetener. But after it cooled and I swished it around a bit, it was really good.

I too want to hear about the rest of this series. So this guy has fire and she dances and there are magical mood rings. That means the possibilities for the others are all over the place. Did you already say there's a magic sword?

Well, every hero has a magic sword, but I'm guessing this is more literal. LOL! (I believe we have another drink...)

Donna said...

LOL -- well, yeah, they BETTER have a magic sword (especially if they can't figure out a girl's moods without a sign! LOL)

This hero can do stuff with fire, and he uses it to create this really cool ambience in the bedroom. . .

Kathryne Kennedy said...

LOL, Sin, Donna, Hellion and 2nd Chance. Reading and grinning here!

Okay to answer the questions:
2nd Chance: Although Legolas inspired the elven lords in the series, once I had my own vision, it differed greatly from Tolkien...I imagine in the same way that Tolkien's vision of the fae differed from the original creation of the Sidhe. I have maybe some similar elements in my books (a ring, an elven lord named Mor'ded) but they're so far away from his own creations that it was easy to distinguish his booty from mine. ;}

Sin: Okay, spilling secrets here. My h/h in the second book will discover the source of the elven lords' magic, and the doorway to Elfhame. They will also discover that the scepters can be removed from the magical barrier, and open the way to a rash of thefts... My hero, Giles Beaumont, is a warrior that is cursed with a magic sword, and then cursed once again. But I have to keep that secret under wraps. :} My heroine longs for nothing more than the comfort of a cottage by the sea, but is forced by events to leave her security and embrace her magical gifts. I'm not mean...honest! Their rewards will be equal to their sacrifices.

Sin said...

!!

Um, I can honestly say I can't wait to get my hands on this book and the subsequent books that follow!

Bosun said...

Were you at Nationals last week? Because if I missed picking this book up (and meeting you!) I'm going to be really put out. LOL!

I have to thank you for giving these characters regular names. That's one thing I struggle with in these kinds of books. But Dominic and Giles and Cassandra I can handle.

Donna said...

Kathryne, I'm not sure anyone has ever made Sin speechless before. LOL

Let's have a moment of silence to appreciate it. :)

Sin said...

It has happened before but no one is allowed to speak of it.

Donna said...

I think that's what I enjoyed, Bo'sun -- the "normalcy" of it. I'm used to the Regency time period, and the Georgian one is right before it. Sometimes the worldbuilding in fantasy stuff is too much for me -- I feel like I'm gonna have to take test or something. But this wasn't like that at all. It felt more like "magic" than "fantasy".

Sin, are you still being silent? LOL

Sin said...

I appreciate well thought up and well rounded fantasy. I'm not much into sci-fi (it happens occasionally though.. Hunger Games, anyone) but fantasy/urban fantasy I can't get enough. I love the Fae (evil blood thirsty creatures that they are). And what I love most is when someone can tweak an old school image of fantasy to make it something fresh.

Bosun said...

I just checked out your website and I know it's not why you're here, but I'd love to hear more about My Unfair Lady. Sounds like a great twist on a classic story.

Donna said...

Is Chance still at Starbies? Cuz I'm getting hungry and wanted to add on to my order. . .

Sin said...

You bring me Ranger and I'll amaze you at how long I stay silent.

Sin said...

You know Chanceroo will be there half the day getting her caffeine drink on.

Bosun said...

Don't talk about food. So far I've had a bagel, a banana, and a tomatoe. This being good shit is for the birds.

Donna - Have you read Eloisa James' Desperate Duchesse series? It's set in the Georgian period and beautifully depicts the era.

Donna said...

I just saw where Borders has a Buy 2 Paperbacks Get a 3rd for Free -- guess I better do some stocking up now (it's a SIGN! I'm supposed to buy the rest of Kathryne's backlist! LOL)

Donna said...

Terri, I've read all but the last one, and I love that series. I'd been saving the last one, but now that I bought her newest book, I don't have to save it. I liked Jemma's book the best.

Bosun said...

No Borders close by, figures.

Harriet's was my favorite. I think that was her name. The one who dressed like a man.

Kathryne Kennedy said...

I'm really starting to think we're kindred spirits, Sin. :}

LOL, Donna!

Bo'sun: Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Nationals. My DH is having some health issues. So, no, you didn't miss me, although I sure wish I could have been there! I went to RT last April, and had so much fun! Not sure which I'll do next. :} Oh, and I kept Georgian names for my halfbreeds, and elven names for the lords. Always mixing both elelements. :}

And sweet of you to check out my website! My Unfair Lady is pure fun, I giggled my way through the book, and, it is another spin on an even older classic. So, debuting more secrets here, I was just told that Eloisa James (fabulous, talented, generous lady) did a write up on old classic spins. Haven't had a chance to announce it on my site yet, but here's the link if you're interested:
http://bnreview.barnesandnoble.com/t5/Reading-Romance/Twice-Told-Tales/ba-p/3049;jsessionid=4A756624658D0AE6DB1B3EB83CEDB842

Kathryne Kennedy said...

I just saw your comment about Eloisa, Bo'sun. What a coincidence! :}

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Oh, forgot to mention, Eloisa's write-up includes a piece on My Unfair Lady, which is why I shared it.

Donna said...

That is too perfect! It's like we're psychotic, I mean, psychic! LOL

Okay, I'm definitely picking up that one -- it sounds great.

So another writing question: plotter or pantser? :)

Donna said...

And Kathryne, my apologies for missing the comment about your DH -- I hope things are okay, or will be soon.

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Psychotic works for me, Donna. :} To answer your question...neither. Egads, going to share another link here, but here goes: http://magicalmusings.com/?p=10135

I have coined a new term to describe my writing process, and blogged about it above.

So sweet of you to catch that, Donna. Things have been touchy in my personal life, but DH is doing much better, thank you.

Bosun said...

That is funny because I thought of Eloisa's latest the minute I read the blurb about yours. And I had not checked out her article yet. That is such a lovely write up. Makes me want to read the book even more.

Sorry to hear about you husband. Hope he's better soon.

Kathryne Kennedy said...

It was a thrill for me to discover that Eloisa not only read My Unfair Lady, but was interested enough to write about it! And thanks a million for the good wishes for DH.

Hellion said...

You bring me Ranger and I’ll amaze you at how long I stay silent.

Don't lie. You'd be constantly saying, "More" and "Again." You wouldn't be silent; you'd be a broken record.

Donna said...

That was a great article, Kathryne. I'm pretty much a pantser, and I feel like some of the best stuff for my plots comes from "throwaway" lines a character says -- or they do something unexpected, which turns into a great backstory or plot twist.

That's when I LOVE the writing process. LOL

Have we worn you out yet? Maybe we should let you take a break.

*hides pre-printed restraining orders in a nearby drawer*

I've actually got to dash out to run an errand (and yes, book buying might be in there too!)

Kathryne Kennedy said...

Donna, You all have been absolutely fabulous! But yes, I promised myself I'd get some editing done today. So, cracking whip, back to work, but I will stop by again later this evening for any other comments. Hugs to all!

Donna said...

Thanks again, Kathryne, for being a lovely guest, and for doing this on such short notice. Now get some editing done -- we want more of your books! :)

2nd Chance said...

RT! I was there! Come to the one in LA, Kathyrn...

Kathryn...?

Damn stupid line at Starbucks. I need one of those freeze guns from Despicable Me...

But added Hel's drink for the evil twin to the bar menu. And decided the Fire Lord's Lava Lamp will be a play on a White Russian...but with Bailey's. Because I'm Irish and I'm the bartender.

Fine, I'll just sit on my rum barrel and drink. By myself.

You're the one who dallied too long at Starbuck's, 2nd. Lolligagged on your way back to enjoy your stupid, perfect, non-humid weather.

2nd Chance said...

Ooooh... Bitter much?

I've got humid, just 70 degree humid.

And I didn't dally, I had a dog to walk...

Donna said...

I had to go pay a bill -- gag! And then get food, because I was starving and there was nothing in the house.

But I'm back. And today it's finally humid. I should have just stayed in Trader Joe's A/C until closing time. LOL

Oh, and the Borders Buy 2 get 1 Free is online only. If it's not listed on their site, lemme know and I can include a link.

My nose is cold...

I'm just saying!

Bosun said...

So you dithered, same difference.

I'm leaving work now, heading out to my car that has been sitting in the 102 degree REALLY HUMID heat. So y'all quit yer bitchin'.

Hellie said...

Dude, it's a 102 here too.

Donna said...

Terri, wear some oven mitts for when you touch the steering wheel!

Chance, be careful or your nose is gonna end up. . . somewhere warm. LOL

2nd Chance said...

OK, I'll shut up.

Here, have some chilled rum, ladies.

2nd Chance said...

OK, 61 degrees, 78% humidity.

Actually being unusally cool here... I guess we are getting more than our share of the cooler temps? I'd send ten degrees or more eastward if I could, honest!

Donna said...

We've had such perfect weather the past week, and then today it's 175% humidity -- so it's like we lost our ability to deal with that heavy wet air. LOL

Maybe I'll go do some book shopping online. Er, I mean, maybe I'll go do some work on my book.

Hi Kathryne, and everyone here at Romance Writer's Revenge. This has been an interesting interview. I have to admit I haven't read The Fire Lord's Lover yet, Kathryne, but I can't wait. I adore your writing. I loved Legolas's character, too. He was by far the most interesting on Lord of the Rings. When he ran up that monster elephant's foot I was awed.

Thankfully, I got the ONE parking place under the tree and put up my windshield shade this morning. So it was at least tolerable when I got in.

Now I need a nap. *yawn*

Welcome aboard, Anita! With luck, Lady Kathyrn will be back before the ship sails into the night, hard to tell...

I was an Aragorn fan, meself. And Haldir. Such a heartbreaker, Haldir...

Hi all! Waving wildly, here! Back to respond to your comments.

Okay, 2nd Chance, so what's the full recipe for The Fire Lord's Lava Lamp, and what name do you want me to use to credit you? I plan on adding it to my website...I think my readers will get a kick out of it!

Hi Anita! So sweet of you to stop by. And thanks so much for the kind words about my writing.!

Hi again Jen X! Glad to see you here! You've been such a faithful follower...have you checked back the comments section of any of the other blogs to see if you won a copy of TFLL already? I'm not sure, it's a blur, but I'm thinking you might have. Surely the odds are with you! :}

Bo'sun, Donna, Hellion: You make me smile.
